Amiga CPU heat load

Do Amiga cpu (680X0) get hotter under load? Or are they running at full speed continuously?

It depends on the software. The OS sets the CPU to sleep when there is nothing to do. But games and demos might constantly be polling for input.

Depends on the CPU. Only the 060 has energy-saving capabilities. All other 68k CPUs just run, no matter what the software does.

As thomas said there is the instruction STOP:

"This is a privileged instruction that first copies its operand
(which is an immediate word value) into the status register and
then halts the processor. The processor will remain in this state
until it receives an interrupt that is not masked by the
interrupt mask into the status register."

AmigaOS uses this instruction when there's nothing to do. This might lead to CPU power usage dropping, but this I don't know for a fact
