"The One" said as much in their review in slating the game as a poor man's GODS wannabe clone.

Still, given Codemasters tendency for crap budget games, I hardly think the Bitmaps were that worried, how times change with Colin Macrae Rally etc.,Codemasters are a long way from their Dizzy inspired origins nowadays!

I liked the dizzy games though. I spent hours on end on my C64 playing Magic land dizzy and was really annoyed when I lost the disk with it on as well as Puzznic.

this RobinHood plays nice, those pigs-enemy looks very funny.
Moreover it plays slighly different,.. character has a strange inertia that conbining with crouching makes you can pass trought little passages..

I played just a little bit and its funny.
I find nice these clone games becoz,.. If you likes Gods but never pass certain stage (thats my case) its good to find another game similar, even if itsnt as good. its like an expansion disk =)

btw, another Codemaster "ripoff" is SkyHighStuntman over SWIV. pretty similar.

I think there is quite a lot of these, like:

Lotus Turbo Challenge / Jaguar XJ220
Pang / Ooops Up
Shadow of the Best / Wrath of the Demon

and:

All RPGs in Dungeon Master style like Eye of the Beholder, Abandoned Places, .....

Nevertheless, just because a game is similar to another one doesn't mean it's bad ! Sometimes the copies play even better than the other, more well known 'originals' !

Yup, I think what Judas is pointing at here is these near-ripoff games. This robin Hood thing is indeed a pooh-man's Gods ;D

How about Cyberzerk? Pooh-man's Alien Breed:

How about renaming the thread to "Pooh-Man's Games Inc."?

Häh ?
These 2 are so identical it couldn't be more !
Both have split screen for 2 player mode, both play the same, look the same with the same effects like night, fog, rain, snow and so on. I cannot remember in every detail, but I know Jaguar was little bit easier to complete.

I have to say that Jag and Lotus are entirely different.

Lotus was all about checkpoints and finishing, whereas Jag was all about getting decent positions and not running out of fuel.

Just because they are driving games, they are not really similar at all. Why not include outrun, moonshine racer at al?

Yeah Akira, you capted it (interesting this Cyberzerk)

Lotus & Jaguar?? I guess Jaguar has its own personlality,.. its not exactly the case, although its clearly inspired.

Question

I always thought Silkworm/SWIV were an interesting comparison.

Yes I know one was horizontal, the other vertical etc. Its just that as Silkworm was an arcade conversion, SWIV (albeit in Vertical scrolling fashion),borrows a lot of ideas from the original & yet not be a sequel-I wonder if the Sales Curve/Storm made any arrangements with the arcade maker of Silkworm to ensure there were no legal entanglements?

That is strange

I'm going to drink some coffee and talk to some people.

@Overdoc:

Okay, both have split screen for 2 player mode. But this is something that you cannot use as an argue to say that the games are identical...

These "effects" are called weather conditions.

You should really take a deeper look at Jaguar XJ220. You can (and have to) repair your car after a race and damaged parts make the car more badly to drive. You can make your own tracks. etc...

Game play is also very different. In Jaguar XJ220 it's all about money. You have to make good positions to earn enough money. If you run out of money, you cannot repair your car and the game is over. Especially this makes Jaguar XJ220 very unique.

The tracks are also very different, not always the same like in Lotus 1. (not sure if you were talking about part 1 only)

Really, the only similarity is that both are racing games...

Elf sprite is really suspicious with Willow coinop from Capcom. same as Warzone from Coredesign and Mercs, also from Capcom.
