4.4.0 sound problems after hitting f12

this problem started today: after i hit f12 key while playing a game, then closing gui again (back to emulation), there is now either a sound loop or no sound at all. reset emulation doesn't help, i have to quit and restart winuae.
nothing changed on my system. i'm still using winuae 4.4.0 for various reasons, operating system is windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. i only turned off my computer today for cleaning. that's it. no change. i also didn't install any new software or anything. the only "change" was a new monitor a two or three weeks ago because my main monitor broke down.
so why is winuae doing this now? never had that kind of problem before, this issue started today!

just tried updating to winuae 4.9.0 version, the same issue occurs.
so what did "change" while turning and plugging off pc for cleaning?

at the latest it occurs when changing master volume on sound tab
(if it didn't already occur by opening winuae gui).

sound is set to "openal: default (generic software)" since forever.

No idea (hidden driver update?) but OpenAL probably isn't that useful anymore.

besides OPENAL there are wasapi and wasapi ex available in sound tab (everything listed twice):
Code:
WASAPI: Default Audio Device
WASAPI: SAMSUNG-4 (NVIDIA High Definition Audio)
WASAPI EX: Default Audio Device
WASAPI EX: SAMSUNG-4 (NVIDIA High Definition Audio)
OpenAL: Default (Generic Software)
OpenAL: Generic Software on SAMSUNG-4 (NVIDIA High Definition Audio)
which one should i use? what's the difference between wasapi and wasapi ex?

//edit: i just looked into my old configurations using a text editor and found following settings:
Code:
win32.soundcard=4
win32.soundcardname=Primõrer Soundtreiber
win32.soundcardname.utf8=Prim?ñrer Soundtreiber
so i was wrong. i didn't use OpenAL in my configs, i used "DSOUND: Primärer Soundtreiber" instead.
"Primärer Soundtreiber" only appears in drop-down list after activating DirectSound. so obviously i was using "DSOUND: Primärer Soundtreiber" in my configurations but somehow in Drivers section DirectSound got unchecked and accordingly DSOUND option disappeared from drop-down list. so i assume OpenAL was just some kind of fallback after DSOUND disappeared from drop-down list. but how did DirectSound get unchecked? i don't know how this happened. i didn't uncheck it (at least not wittingly).
so now in sounds tab, Drivers section DirectSound, WASAPI and OpenAL are checked, giving me a total of 8 options:
Code:
WASAPI: Default Audio Device
WASAPI: SAMSUNG-4 (NVIDIA High Definition Audio)
WASAPI EX: Default Audio Device
WASAPI EX: SAMSUNG-4 (NVIDIA High Definition Audio)
DSOUND: Primärer Soundtreiber
DSOUND: SAMSUNG-4 (NVIDIA High Definition Audio)
OpenAL: Default (Generic Software)
OpenAL: Generic Software on SAMSUNG-4 (NVIDIA High Definition Audio)
and "DSOUND: Primärer Soundtreiber" is the one activated when i load any configuration now.
i assume, that problem i described yesterday should not occur using DSOUND as audio device.
i hope so. i'll have to test this.
