Can you use 64mb SIMM's in an Apollo 1260?

Guys the 32mb SIMM in my Apollo 1260 is very thick and Doesn't fit very well. I found a cheap 64mb (thin) SIMM and wondered if it would work in the Apollo?

Will the Apollo use only 32mb of it? Or not work at all?

Single sided 72pin SIMMs are: 4, 16, 64MB
Doubled sided units: 1, 8, 32 & 128MB

Apollo sees only 16MB of the 64MB single side module.

This is the only thing I hate about the Apollo's, what a massive design flaw. I wonder how difficult it would be to modify them to take decent sized memory modules.

its thin but also wider than space between socket and EPROM. Tried that and it will not "clicks" there :/

You might be able to find a thinner 32MB module which only has chips on one side but will still be seen as a double-sided module. There is not always correspondence between a module being single/double sided and whether it has chips on just one side or both, although it is often the case.

exactly.. that's why 2mb,8mb,32mb,etc modules are technically referred to as "double rank", not double sided.. they are effectively two-in-one modules using separate RAS signals to access one or the other

note that this does not apply in the same way to more modern dimm modules..

Good call, finding one is another matter.
The ones on eBay are lacking technical details, so it's hit and miss...

an apollo 1240 and 1260 cant use a 64mb simm because the extra address's are missing on the board.

32 mb double sided edo simms are easy to get.
