Can't run ImageFX 4.5

Hi Guys,

Hoping someone can assist here. Just bought ImageFX4.5 and can't get it to install. Got the physical CD version but also tried the download version after I registered and had the exact same experience with both.

Basically half-way through the install (just after I finish selecting printers) it just stops with this error:
"Copyfiles: Problem with source file/drawer "RAM:Browser.info" in line 1726."
"DOS Error Type: Unable to locate file or drawer."
The Install_Datatypes_V45 installer fails in almost the exact same way.

Installing on an A1200/030/FPU with 128MB RAM, WB3.1.4.1.

Thanks.

Not a guarantee, but check your version of Installer - old versions can sometimes cause errors like this.

OK - that was good info thanks. Turns out I had an older installer in C: (43.x) and newer ones in both my System and Utilities folder (45.8). No idea how that came to be...

Anyway, when I pointed it to the newer installer it worked perfectly. I've now replaced the older one in C:.

However.... now I've got over that hurdle I've encountered yet another...

ImageFX just crashes when I try to run it.

What happens is it briefly pops up a message about loading a dither module and then bang - Software Failure. Error 8100 0005

Time for SnoopDos! See what exactly it’s failing on. My guess would be it’s trying to load an 040/060 version of something that doesn’t like the 030. Even though you probably specified 030 in the Installer, the way ImageFX packages/installs it’s modules is bizarre and some incompatible versions may have slipped in.

If it’s not that, it might have overwritten some system files. I seem to recall that it dumps a few things into Libs: and Sys:Classes without asking...

Unless they've made a mistake it does explicitly say that it works with Classic systems: OS 3.0, 3.1 and 3.9 so hopefully that's not the problem. I do have ClassAct2 installed on my system as I remember something else needed it.

Not entirely sure how I'd go about checking if I have the correct 030 version of the program(s) to be honest...

I don't always get the Software fault guru meditation reset, sometimes the program just locks up completely after failing to load the dither module.

Anyway here's my log...

Yes I know it works with OS 3.0, 3.1 and 3.9, but you are using OS 3.1.4.

If you don't have problems with the ClassAct, try to use the "post.library" of OS 3.9, that should work, I did a test and it works for me, see screenshot !

Sounds promising... but do you have any idea where I can get hold of the post.library file?

I tried downloading the OS3.9 ISO and searched the entre disc and couldn't find it?

Thanks.

Yes you're right it's not part of OS3.9, it was in Libs for a previous test.

Then about the "post.library", you must use the standard v22.25, not the one named post.library.020

As mentioned on OS3.9 ImageFX works better, all post.library even the newest post.library 23.1 works fine.

I attach a screenshot of ImageFX on my OS 3.9 BB4 AfA One:

OK I checked the version of post.library and it was 22.25 so by your reckoning it should be working. (The only other version there was a backup of an older version - 17.7).

So I uninstalled ImageFX, making sure I deleted every trace of the program, all the extras and so on and then re-installed it. This time around instead of installing everything I just installed the main program with no extras and I also didn't enable that 'Magic server' thing... and now it works!

As I get more familiar with the program I'll add any extras as and when I need them and then at least I will know which thing breaks it next time.

Anyway, thanks for the assist.

Now I just need to track down a decent manual for it as there wasn't one included, despite me buying the physical version of the software!

FWIW, another odd issue that the latest Installer corrects is the Installer defaulting to a topaz font that extends past the GUI window, making it impossible to continue the installation (happened with AD Pro v2.5).

Once I used the newest version of Installer (from 3.1.4), the font was correct, and the install worked perfectly.

If you don't mind my asking, what functionality does post.library offer that ImageFX needs?

I ask, as I have ImageFX 4.5, and it seems to run fine without it?
