Using an external USB floppy-drive to boot games?

Would it be possible to link an external USB floppy-drive with WinUAE to enable the emulator to read a (PC) disk with an .adf and boot it directly from the drive as soon as something is inserted?

Why would you do this and not just load the .ADF?

Well, I had that silly idea earlier this week to just copy an .adf image onto a standard disk (readable by Windows 10 via USB floppy drive) and have WinUAE boot it - just as if I inserted a disk into a normal Amiga. All for nostalgia. I thought it would be worth a shot to ask around if it's actually possible

It is only technically possible. In reality it isn't working like you probably expect it to work..

Thanks for taking the time to answer! If you say so, I know it isn't possible just like that

It would also not be very be practicable. WinUAE would have to be in a permanent waiting state for a disk to be entered and the .adf file "inserted" via disk inside the external drive would have to be recognised the moment it is put in as a fresh disk to boot from. There won't be any real need for a function like that and it's a bit of an overkill I guess.
