Pandoras Box - Any Good?

Anyone bought one of these?
https://pandorastoybox.ca/

Been considering getting one, but worried I might be disappointed.

They're very good, but they're locked down - I have an arcade cab and opted for a Pi3/RetroPie install instead of the Pandora's Box version so I can install my own ROMs.

The Pandora has some very weird omissions, such as R-Type and R-Type Leo, but no R-Type II.

If you enjoy tearing and generally poor emulation due the cpu being too slow, then go for it!

Ok thanks for the input. Ill look at other options then.
I like the neat all-in-one plug and play idea tho.

When mcgeezer came to London last year we met in Kings Cross and went to PimpShuei.

They had one or two of these Pandora's Box machines.

To be honest; it was ok but didn't seem smooth... I find better performance running MAME via my laptop connected to my TV

It's also a nightmare having to scroll through the list of games as you use the joystick to go up / down and couldn't jump to letters from memory. You can sort of see the menu system here:

I think you can jump with the newer ones but still a bit stuttery. I've seen arcade sticks out there with Pi's inside running Retropie or similar, that would be my choice for an "all in one"

A local pub has one of their "HD" models in stock. it's complete arse.
bad aspect ratios (most games with a few rare exceptions) are stretched to fit the 16:9 display, a *lot* of games (TGM being a glaring example) being run at literal half speed, not frameskip. Console versions of games in place of certain titles I could go on. Not a whole lot of good games, either. Was completely missing a lot of specific manufacturer's titles.

**NO ROBOTRON**

2/10 because one weird game called Uncle Poo was funny, I guess.

I bought a Pi3 a few months ago off eBay for £40 but it included a 16GB micro SD card, a case and power supply. Hands down it is the best £40 I've ever spent! I have one SD card setup using Amibian and another with RetroPie on it and both are superb. It's a great gizmo and easy to setup thanks to all the YouTube tutorials and (currently) how many ROMs there are out there.
(Thanks to DamienD for the SNES disk you send me many moons ago).

That's a blast from the past

You know there's an updated version available on the "EAB File Server"; see this thread for details: DamienD's SNES DVD... [REVAMP]

Oh no, just noticed all the images in that thread have disappeared... will need to reupload

Looks like there's a minefield of bootleg versions of the Pandora boxes. I'm still confused on the range as it seems the 9 isn't as good as the 6?
The latest genuine one seems to be the 6. The review on Youtube for it gave it a thumbs up.

I ended up getting Mame running on my PC and connected my p4 controller to it.
