Chaos Engine vs Chaos Engine 2 - Which is Best?
Hi everyone and welcome to the April 2018 edition of the "Which Is Best?" series.
Last month I placed two C64 games against each other, they were B.C's Quest For Tyres & B.C. II - Grog's Revenge asking you which in your minds was the better game and after counting all the votes I can now reveal Quest For Tyres is the winner gaining 17 votes with B.C II receiving just 8 votes, B.C. II was getting hammered but managed to gain a few votes near the end, these games didn't get much attention mainly I think due to Grog's Revenge was not that well remembered but thanks for everyone who took part! This month I'm going to place the classic Amiga Chaos Engine games against each other. Now, I had a feeling that Chaos 1 would storm this but to my surprise there is actuall a Chaos 2 fan following across the web so I thought ok let's see. I have been as fair as I can with these two games showing 1 stage of each world on both games including bosses and endings so both games have their fair share of the limelite, which do you think is the better game?!, only your votes will determine that,...happy voting! :-D VOTING CLOSES 15th May 2018. A no-contest, in my humble opinion.
The Chaos Engine is a co-op, top-view, search-and-destroy action game with a nice storyline, excellent graphics, great sound effects, good speed and awesome level-design and deep playability. It's a timeless classic and one of the best Amiga games ever. The Chaos Engine 2 is a split screen 1-on-1, top-view, search-and-destroy action game with nice graphics, sound effects and fluidity but poor depth and almost no storyline. Nice on its own but nowhere near the scope and magnitude of its predecessor. |

Chaos Engine 2 is not so bad, the AGA version is a real AGA version from the start, it's original, with different puzzles to solve, great computer opponent A.I., end of level bosses...
I still prefer Chaos Engine, which just is one of my favourite games. |

Plus it contains speech which for some odd reason isn't included in the A500 version,...yet A500 Chaos1 contains tons of it

Chaos Engine 1. What a lousy concept for part 2. This split-screen nonsense doesn't work for one minute. It's a co-op classic. Everything else is plain stupid.

Should this even be a question? It's like comparing Phantom Menace to New Hope..A pointless exercise.
It was one of the last games I bought for the Amiga, hence my huge, huge, oh so huge disappointment. Last edited by lordofchaos; 25 April 2018 at 23:29. |

I bought Chaos Engine and ... I was sent Chaos Engine 2 for free by Steve Kelly because I promised to create a HD installer, which I did
Of course I was disappointed. I used to love all Bitmap Bros titles (maybe a little less for the earlier titles like Speedball & Xenon & Xenon II, but still...). |
