Add HD Drive

Being new to Amiga and just purchasing an A1200, what do I need to install the internal 2.5" disk drive?

Well if your Amiga 1200 is original inside the case is a cradle to fit the harddrive to, so you will need four screws and a small IDE cable. (44 pin and just a few cm will be fine)

You will also need your install disk to do the software setup. (partition the drive and install the OS)

If your harddrive is large then you will need either 3.5 (or was it 3.9) or the Amiga update for the FFS and HDToolbox to support larger harddrives (Above 8gig)
You can also use a replacement filesystem like SFS or PFS3 which supports larger drives.

Thanks for the reply. Can you provide a good source for a 2.5" disk and ribbon cable? Where can I find the appropriate software?

I buy my 2.5" drives off ebay. Amigakit probably sells the cables. Workbench 3.1 can easily be downloaded from the internet, assuming you have a way of transferring files from your PC to the Amiga. If not, you will need to get a copy of the disks from someone.

Yeah just what Braddo said.
Amigakit can set you up with everything but you pay a premium.
2.5" drives are cheap off ebay.

Any 2.5" IDE drive. It is a standard IDE interface.
