ROM 3.1.4 not working on A1200 1D4 with weirdly wired 3.0 ROM

Hi!

I've bought 3.1.4 ROM chips but my Amiga 1200 1D.4 doesn't boot with them.

What may be related is the fact the the original 3.0 ROM chips have some pins switched with soldered wires. I've attached some photos of this weirdness.

Does anyone have any idea what I should do to get 3.1.4 ROMs to work?

I seem to remember that this jump wire hack was a problem with the ROM chips, not the motherboard. Did you try swapping the 3.1.4 ROMs with one another and seeing if it boots then?

Okay so first things first.

When you inserted the 3.1.4 ROMs. You have inserted these correctly? I.e “HI” bottom and “Lo” top?

Have you removed the CF card to make sure you are indeed getting the 3.1.4 Kickstart screen?

If the top have been done and you are getting these. Then the CF card might be the problem.

On power up have you held the 2 mouse buttons to check if a DH0: (or whatever the CF has been setup to) show up in the boot menu?

Obvious and final question. Which Amiga OS/Workbench are you attempting to boot from? If 3.1 then that’s your problem. As 3.1.4 ROMs require 3.1.4 or 3.1.4.1 Amiga OS/Workbench. As workbench.library and icon.library are no longer in the kickstart ROMs.

Success!

I'm not entirely sure what actually happened, but the ROM chips work now. I'm a 100% sure in my previous attempts to have taken care about HI/LO.

However, in the meantime I fixed a faulty old Commodore RGB to VGA adapter - it had a faulty VGA connector that I replaced. This had been causing image to disappear, and may have coincided with my ROM chip switching attempts.

Thanks again for pointing to try again and double check!

I can confirm that. One of my motherboards have that "factory mod" but it works well with its wired kickstart roms
