Legs on chips soldered together?
Hi all, is there any reason why someone would have soldered two of the legs together on a kickstart rom on an a1200. It works fine other than an unconnected Video output issue via Composite but I just noticed someone had connected two of the legs.
I have never seen this before and my other 1200 isnt like this Thanks Paul |

Without a piccy I can only guess, but several thoughts come to mind.
1. If they're EPROMS (craploads on Fleabay sold as genuine Kickstarts), it could be that they're larger than 256KB, so a wire could be used to tie the upper address line hi or low, making it act as a 256KB ROM. 2. If it's just on one ROM, it could be a fix for a broken trace on the motherboard. eg. Tieing the Byte/Word pin hi to make it always output 16bits, or tieing the 2 ground pins together. |

Opened her up today for another reason and while I was there made a note of the legs that were connected. On closer inspection it appears that the legs have actually been crossed over on leg 3 and 9 counting from top left of the chip. This is on both legs of the chip! Any ideas as to why? Paul |

I thought the commodore factory screwed up and messed up the chips. Like they done with the CD32 Kickstarts in the UK, they had to cut the legs and solder a wire to the rom socket. |
