Comparison of Modules Players

Hi all!

I have been compiling and comparing various players to add them to AmiModRadio.

Some great players would be amazing if they could provide a complete ARexx interfaces. Maybe their developers are still around and could help?
  • AmiAMP: there is no command to LOAD a new file (or files) to then play them.
  • AModPlay: there is no command to get the STATUS of the player: if it's playing a song or not.
  • DAPlayer: there is no command to LOAD a new file; to REMOVE loaded files; to get the STATUS of the player.
  • PlaySID: there is no command to REMOVE loaded files and to get the STATUS of the player.
  • PowerPlayer: there is no command to REMOVE loaded files and to get the STATUS of the player.

If anything, I'd happy to help

Cheers!

Hi AmigaSystem!

Thanks for the suggestions!

I already cover some of them (Ami-PlayMOD, Prayer2, TKPlayer, and TMLG) and AmiModRadio includes MultiPlayer already, it's my first player! But it's doesn't support many formats, crashes in some situations, and doesn't provide a STATUS ARexx command.

I didn't know the other ones (APlayer, EMPY, Plady, and TFMX), I'll try them out!

Cheers!

Nice comparison table.

You could also check out AmiNetRadio and its hivelyplayer (+AHX) plugin:

http://amigazeux.net/anr/
https://aminet.net/package/mus/play/hivelyplay

You can get a free legal keyfile with AMPlifier 2.10 here:

https://www.amigafuture.de/app.php/d...ils?df_id=5388

Then use it with version 2.33 (2.35 is OS3.9 only AFAIK) here:

http://www.katodev.de/katodev/down/amplifier233.lha

Sid4amiga 3.40b2 is available here:

http://web.archive.org/web/200412060...c/S4A340b2.lha

Also noticed that you list the Eagleplayer version as 2.05, but the version on Aminet is 2.06.

Could you help me with AmiNetRadio? I added different types of files to it playlist, like Mods and DIGI, but it always says "Could not identify the file" and never plays anything.

Thanks!

AmiNetRadio works fine for me with MOD and MP3, some problem with 060 (if you drag a file to the GUI it crashes).

No problem on the other hand if you load files from requester files, although on RTG in the request file it shows strange fonts, Playlist is also non-functional, replicates pieces of music after clicking on them

Check the AHI setting and use snoopos to figure out what it doesn't find !

Hi AmigaSystem!

Thanks for the test, I will try again

I had already tried to make it work with SnoopDOS but SnoopDOS doesn't report anything missing, so I thought that it was either AmiNetRadio or me doing something wrong...

Cheers!

Hi all!

Just to let you know that I updated the table, which now includes 24 players and 50 criteria!

EaglePlayer still seems the most versatile but HippoPlayer is catching up fast!

PS. Maybe a kind moderator could rename this thread into something like "Comparison of Modules Players"?

Cheers!

Hi all!

Hope that you're enjoying some holidays! I updated the comparisons of players with the latest HippoPlayer v2.58

I use the exact same config to compare all the players but, obviously, your mileage may vary

Cheers!

Hi all!

Just to let you know that I updated the comparison of the modules with the latest version of HippoPlayer v2.59 and it's now the best player!

DeliTracker can play a few more formats but has more problems than HippoPlayer now

Cheers!
