Excellent product. Will be attractive to many who don't want to solder a 9-pin onto a slaughtered USB joypad.

Those who think playing emus with joypad (including WinUAE, MAME and consoles) is more or less like playing with a real joystick won't believe how much more fun the challenging games are with a real good proper joystick!

Indeed. C-64 and Amiga games were made for joysticks, not joypads. ;-)

I assume this will work nicely with Master System/Megadrive pads too?

Yes, but only 2 buttons are supported.
CD32 pads also work, but again only 2 buttons are supported.

Its pre-programmed.

I would need to check again, but I may be able to get a third button working with current chip.

Could it have been pre-programmed to accept Master System/Megadrive pads? Surely it could have? Then it could have been marketed to a greater audience possibly bringing the price down?

It will work with that, but as I said only 2 buttons.
Which if I recall is normal, well was when I used one for my Amiga back i the day.

Dont forget, we are going from USB to 9pin.
Cant wire up 6 buttons as there are only 3 connections for buttons on 9pin.

To follow up, on sega megadrive pads, B and C buttons work.
Mastersystem controller should work with A and B.

The Megadrive/Genesis pad multiplexes the signals, the pins have a different meaning depending on whether the select pin is low or high..

http://pinouts.ru/Game/genesiscontroller_pinout.shtml

Shouldn't be too difficult to adapt.

Once upon a time I was very vocal against using unmodified Megadrive pads in the Amiga because of the pad's tendency to pull down pin 7, which happens to be +5V out in the Amiga/C-64, depending on what buttons you press on the pad.

However these days I don't bother, since no-one cares about little details like this. Unfortunately no-one's managed to burn their motherboard traces either, so I haven't been able to get the last laugh. :-)

not wanting to steal Amigakit's thunder, but I prefer the donald.de DIY kit, as it is same price, but 2x DB9 sticks on 1 USB plug

http://www.retro-donald.de/pages/usb...ickadapter.php
15 euro, and works fantastic

does this one lag btw?

Is this any better in terms of buttons supported or something? I have 3 buttons in my Megadrive QuickShot Chimera 3 pad (ejem, ejem, the best joystick ever made) and I believe to remember that I need them for games like Jungle Strike (three kind of weapons).

The Mega Drive Version of Desert Strike supports 3 buttons, the Amiga port 2 buttons, second one for weapon selection (what doesn't work with all sticks or pads). Jungle Strike has only one button, except the WHDLoad version.

Retro-Donalds adapter supports 2-buttons only. Sorry, it was designed for computer games.
