To sort out overscan, you are better off using something like a "test card". If the geometry is out on the CRT, using another for comparison is unlikely to be helpful.

My prob is how to display it on the tv. I don’t have much analogue stuff now.

I’ll see if I can convert a test card dvd to vcd, as I have a cd/vcd portable player.

Hi,

Download testcard from Aminet:
http://aminet.net/search?query=testcard

I use that for my Amiga video adaptor work.

I’ve tried the testcard ver 3.0, and I’m not sure it’s enabling overscan, as I still have a border.

You need to go into service menu for your tv to adjust the overscan?

My tv is cerca 1988 tech. No service menu. No osd.

I know the adjustments just need a signal that is like a normal overscanned video signal. I suppose I could try my old dv camcorder. That should be able to display a jpg of a test card and it’s 4:3 pal.

I'm wondering how you will adjust overscan by simply displaying an image?

If your TV has no options to adjust the signal inputted you are essentially going to have to rely on an external adaptor to do these adjustments.

What make and model is it? May help to get some idea as to your TVs spec and limitations.

PYE 15” fst using the CP90 chassis.

It has pots to adjust width, height, and some to shift the image up and down.

That is basically what service menu does anyway. Have you tried tweaking these with test card up? You should be able to adjust it so the relevant area of test card are in view.

Yep they work. But I’m not sure the Amiga is using overscan to display the card?

It wouldn't matter since you are adjusting an image... in essence Amiga just sends out display without any geometry changes. So all you need to configure is on TV side.

Provided the correct signal is being sent eg PAL output on PAL TV and NTSC output for NTSC TV. If you use incorrect output you will adjust for the wrong settings which will be fine for certain setups (eg when I use MAME) but not for day to day.

I thought if the image wasn’t displayed in overscan it is essentially displayed in the centre of the screen with a border. A bit like old 8 bit computers that had a large area around the edge unused. So if I display workbench window is there an unused area around the edge?

When you adjust your monitor to show the max overscan image, a regular system-configuration is not completely centered, it is off to the right a bit.
