Music album art done on the Amiga in 1988

Sorry if this is not closely enough related to the Amiga scene or has already been discussed here, but here goes.

Amiga Bill's story of Samia Halaby got me thinking that it would be really interesting to know about other artists that have used or are using the Amiga to create their visual art professionally. I also started doing some searching on my part.

I always suspected the album cover art for two Voivod albums, Nothingface (1989) and Angel Rat (1991) were done on the Amiga. The band's drummer and visionaire Michel Langevin has done all their art from day one, and I had a chance to ask him about this recently. He said that he had an A500 which he still thinks very fondly of Today I also stumbled on an interview video from 1988 [ Show youtube player ] where Michel is working on his Amiga to create the art for Nothingface (at around 0:30 and 1:32). The band is considered to be one of the most important avant-garde metal pioneers which to me makes this an even cooler find (even if you dislike their style)

I haven't yet found high-quality scans of the album art, but here are a couple of links to web pages containing smaller photos: Nothingface and Angel Rat [ Show youtube player ].

If you know of any other visual artists using the Amiga, please do share!

Vangelis Direct

I am assuming it was made on an Amiga as it's using some Deluxe Paint 3 clip-art.

Belgian EBM Band Front 242 had an Amiga 2500 and an Amiga 500 in their graphics studio. So I would guess the album covers at this time where made with Amiga.

This album was released in 1988

Cool, thanks for the info! It seems the same Deluxe Paint clip art heads were used for both Direct and Nothingface front covers as a starting point. Front 242 seem to have gone for a very minimalistic approach with that album!

Timbuk 3's Eden Alley album from the 80s shows Venus as included with Deluxe Paint. Looks like it was photographed directly from an RGB monitor too.

Good catch, the scanlines are well visible there This is a new band to me. I had a quick look at their videos, do you think it's an A1000 that makes an appearance here? [ Show youtube player ]

The animations/colour cycling in this video look very Deluxe Paintish as well: [ Show youtube player ]

Another find (I'm guessing many of the board members know this already...):

"The music video for the 2003 single "Move Your Feet" by Danish alternative dance duo Junior Senior was created entirely using the Amiga version of Deluxe Paint by the art collective Shynola." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deluxe_Paint)

The vid: [ Show youtube player ]

It sure looks like an A1000 in that video. The monitor looks like the 1084/2002 design too.

This just surfaced: [ Show youtube player ]. It's a student project from 1991 which could maybe have made it as an official music video. Done in Deluxe Paint for the most part. What I find particularly intersting is that it's also connected to my initial post in that the band it relates to is the same one!
