Umilator (aka Amithlon 2.0) DemoCD Preview
Hi
I've recently found my old DemoCD of Umilator, and got it running under VirtualBox. Thought some people might want to see it in action, so i prepared a small video: [ Show youtube player ] |

Although i can't promise *anything* as of now!
I am currently reaching out to the IP holders of the products on the CD, to see if they would accept to have this DemoCD released to the puplic purely for historic reasons. Two more weeks (just kidding) Last edited by LaBodilsen; 20 February 2023 at 11:57. |

I really hope that it's permitted, but I've learned to be pessimistic about such things

It would be great to see this shared. I would be most interested mainly in testing the picasso96 drivers :-)
Thanks for the video. |

Umilator, so close yet so far. In Portugal we have a saying "morrer na praia" and umilator, as so many things Amiga related, had so much potential and then got stopped. Thanks God we had PPC

Commodore would have needed to recompile KS/WB to x86 if they had survived just 2 more years in reality. All that guff talk about HP RISC or other very expensive CPUs for their future systems (which they touted would use the Win NT as the host OS for the "A5000" etc) had it the wrong way round.
Amiga could only go the way of Apple, x86. Anything else was terrible £/MIPS. Amithlon proved I was right. |

For anyone that wasn't already aware, Bernie has replied in a thread over on aw.net that I created to relay this one.

Thanks for the link. BTW, there is a discussion about the sources and maybe I missed it but where did he gave an answer regarding the Umilator Demo CD and the share of it ? |

He did not give an answer to that publicly, And he is not the only one that needs to give permission for this to be released to the puplic.

I doubt the IP holder has the financial means to even get a lawyer to write a standard letter let alone a Peyo style quest to bankrupt somebody releasing a demo CD from decades ago LOL

It would definitely be nice to have a public release of Umilator. I don't know much, actually anything, about legal rights, but shouldn't we obtain permission from all three parties here? Amiga Inc., Bernd Meyer and P96. Not sure who is the current holder of Amiga OS license, is it Cloanto? I would really like to see a working "Umilator" but I am sort of pessimistic about it. Maybe there is a chance to get the green light for this demo release, for historical and educational reasons, as it is definitely a great piece of software. To actually use it, there is a key needed because demo release is heavily protected, write locked, time-limited, encrypted, who knows, maybe something more. Releasing it as it is, a demo, looks pretty harmless to all parties (if they all agree) but there is not much use for it. Educational reasons still count, to archive it as an awesome piece of work.

Did you ever decide if you were going to upload the demo of Umilator?

Uploading an ISO dump to archive.org would probably be your best bet, as they're generally accepted as being a repository or library of files these days.
