Lemmings Editor

[ Show youtube player ] @58.55

Video mentions... "Build the editor into the game"

Does an editor exist anywhere?

Yes, for both Lemmings and Lemmings 2, they even gave the disks to one of the retro youtubers who made a video of them. Sadly they have decided not to release them in any form. I can’t imagine Sony would be assed one bit and wouldn’t even notice if they went out the back door onto internet archieve, they weren’t when Hired Guns and other Psygnosis IP was leaked.

I think an unofficial Lemmings 2 editor exists.

The Level Editor for Lemmings 1&2 would be super sweet.

Why not release it ? Nobody would get harmed; only Fun and Joy would come out of it.

Sony already harmed the Lemmings enough with there awfull Iphone "game".

My little beloved fellows did not deserve this kinda treatment.

FREE the Lemmings & the Editor Disk/s, i say !

It would be great fun to be able to design our own Lemmings levels. Tantalising that it's almost out there, but not quite. I wonder how easy it is to get the levels balanced, and to work out where they should go in a difficulty curve? One thing I love about Lemmings is the variety of level styles - some that rely on reflexes and quick reactions, some that are very puzzly, some that are quite abstract, some which look obvious but turn out not to be, and some where it's difficult if you don't spot the trick, but quite easy once you do. I wonder if a team of us could get that balance right?

In my experience, every time someone creates a level editor, noone creates enough levels for it to be useful.

There are some counter examples (Cannon Fodder) but otherwise, the task is pretty daunting and you find no volunteers

- Chaos Engine editor: 2 sublevels => 16 would be needed for a full game level set
- Superfrog editor: no levels created
...

And I'm not blaming anyone. I created a full level for Magic Pockets, but gave up after level 1. There were 3 level sets to produce... Plus those editors lack users and feedback, and usually are not super user friendly. After all they're developer tools, and developers need to suffer.

By the looks of it, the Lemmings Editor seems like a lot of Fun and pretty easy to use.
Can be seen in action here :

@58.54

I searched for the Cannon Fodder Editor ; (didnt even know it existed)
and the first thing i found was a almost 2 Hour long Tutorial on how to use that bloody thing.

Couldnt find any Video of the Superfrog Editor and the Link to the ADF i found is 404.

The Chaos Engine Editor from Exl (EAB)

Yes, I made some very polished level editors for various games but I don't bother anymore as it seems no one ever used them.

Creating good new levels for Amiga version of Lemmings from scratch can be hard.
But converting already available levels, can be doable.
If I remember right Japanese versions of Lemmings has 1-2 sets of extra levels created by Sun Soft.
One set is very hard.

Yes but the point is they would be made for, and on the Amiga. Lemmings level creators have been around for years for PC.

Converting levels is of course doable, i converted the Sega Mega Drive levels when i made More! Lemmings.

But it’s a notoriously boring and repetitive effort effort to insert them, hex edit them etc. The fun part is making the levels yourself and this editor would be a great asset to the Amiga scene.

http://aminet.net/package/game/edit/Lem2LevEd210Rg ???

Presumably a Lemmings 1 editor would need to be compatible with the CDTV version as it's the only version to use files or it would need to compile the whole game etc and would be long. If it's even possible with Lemmings 1 without the game being totally recompiled.
