Battle Squadron music remix

Hi dudes,

I was playing around with some new music software and made a new version of the Battle Squadron Highscore tune. Check it out here: http://andreas.blazer.nu/music.php and tell me what you think.

Another thumbs up from me Blazer. I always thought that Battle Squadron had excellent production values - cool code, gfx and music and you've definitely made a fitting tribute of very high quality too.

Like it, prefer the Ron Klaren remix on Amiga:Immortal 2 CD, but I still like it.

The theramin type sounds to the main voice at the beginning were very good.

It's not bad but I like the original more. Compared to the original tune your remix is too monotonous for me.

I like it, but I prefer the original to be honest.

What I find with some Amiga remixes is that there is a fine line between a really great version, and some sad waste of space you'd find on a really piss poor CD covers version, the kinda crap you'd hear as elevator music!

Any recommendations??

I have two recommendations:

Laser Squad by Matt Furniss Remixed by Mark Vera (Takes a while to get going but is good)
Batman by Jonathon Dunn Remixed by Binster (See Zone)

Just go on amigaremix.com and you'll hear plenty of pointless remixes.

I am of course familiar with that site. I was after some personal recommendations of no-so-pointless remixes....

n'mind

The original Klaren's Battle Squadron soundtrack contains the perfect feel of the 80's. All those Miami Vice synth drums, catchy main tune and overall kind of feeling that the composer wants to show-off with his super synthesizer to play all those cool samples and sound effects the machine can produce.

The reason why so many Amiga remix songs fails is that the arranger "flattens" the song. When instruments sound like a standard PC MIDI instruments there's rarely point to make a remix at all.

Good remixes catch the main idea of the song, the athmosphere and adds to them something new and interesting. My example of Amiga / C64 remix is not a perfect remix but I like Sonic Wanderer's Giana Sister remix mainly because alltough it may heard a bit monotonous 90's basic trance song it has a very effective bass and drum lines. Also it contains enough variation and new ideas to make it interesting. Finally the song is a bit sad and moody and also angry too, everything that I like in Amiga remix!

Sonic Wanderer's Giana cover:

I quite like it and I'm an 80's music head through and through. Good work, you've done a better job than I ever could :

I'm not sure what you mean here, but there's no (normal) musician nowadays that uses "Standard PC MIDI Instruments"... or do you mean when the original amiga song sounds like MIDI Instruments? Don't know of any amiga songs that sounds like that either...

I got it on again... nice and soothing to me ears...

If I win the lottery... as well as RCK's new Cray Server I'll buy you some old retro synths... namely, Prophet 5 (me fave, so organic sounding) and a nice Juno 106 or something like that Oberheim are nice and throaty too... mmm now you got me talking about sexy synthesizers....
