no left click

Hi, due to my recent fetish of all things Amiga I have obtained a couple of bruised but working models (2x1200 1x500 & 1x500+) cheap.

One of the models an A1200 with very clean no yellowing and pearly white keys works but theres no left click when depressing the mouse button, I have tried several rodents but alas still no left click.

Does anyone know if this is the port or a chip problem, I have seen Amiga mouse ports on Ebay very cheap, these will need soldering to the board I suppose. If its not the port what chip would cause this?

My personal a1200 is about to get a a new case and clean keys whatever the outcome but it would be nice to get the port working on this mobo.

Finally, Anyone got a good way of getting plastic keys/cases un yellowed thru age?

I am ot sure about that left click.. have you tried it ALL mice in ALL Amigas and in none it works? If that's the you have a big case of bad luck, with either all ports broken in all amigas, or all your mice broken.

As for yellowing, there is no solution, it's yellow not because of dirt, but because of UV damage. You might be able to restore it with the right paint type (Someone here, I htink Electroblaster, recommended vynil dye), and the right color (which will be hard to find)

I suppose you've already dismantled the 1200?

if not do it, remove the floppy drive and check the mouse area, there were 3 different types of board...

1. the oldest was a ribbon cable from the mouse port to the MoBo...

2. next was a seperate PCB that pushed onto the same pins as the ribbon cable...

3. all on the longer MoBo...

With 1, you sometimes get a faulty cable due to age, with 1 & 2, check for a dodgy connection to the MoBo...

with all types check for dry joints and cracked tracks on the mouse connector, some peeps were very rough with their poor defenceless miggies

Hi, thanks for the replies.

First Akira, yep the mice work fine in the other Amigas so Im sure its the A1200 in question.

Yellowing or aging, yep its a pain, I dont smoke but I notice my original A1200 is yellowing from the right and guess where the window is? The A500s are well, just going off I suppose (very yellow) Luckily this Amiga1200 is like new apart from the port problem, so Ill use the bits of that and make one like new.

Severin, yep I took the a1200 to bits and I have No2 in your list tried looking around it but all seems fine. I know what you mean about peeps being rough, I often see friends tightening their PC mobos down with a screwdriver as if a gale was about to hit, same with mice plugs on Amigas I suppose.

I'll open another Amiga and see if it has the same connections, ifso Ill swap em and see what happens.

Thanks
