Did notice a spelling mistake on intro, Cathar is missing a H. Good to see it is much further along and looks almost ready for release.

If people want to discuss further Jeeg's L'Abbaye des Morts port, probably best to start a new thread to avoid more confusion (like Amiga France did).

He might have used the french pronunciation (that and the italian one does not have the H)

Going to spawn a different thread

Maybe because in occitan, which was their language (and not French at all, which makes the original title a bit anachronic*), it doesn't takes any H.

* It would be like giving a turkish title to a game taking place in old Byzantium/Constantinopolis for the reason that Byzantium/Constantinopolis is now modern Istanbul).

Don't worry!! Istanbul is an altered form, of the greek expression "Eis tin Polin = To the City", since Constantinople was also known as "Polis = City" to the greek speaking people or "Miklagard = The Great City" to the Vikings!!!

Yep but that doesn't means they were speaking turkish there before the Ottoman conquest.

Cathars didn't spoke any French at all. Their liturgical and everyday lenguage was occitan, not french.

"L'Abbaye des Morts" isn't even made by a French guy so the use of this lenguage in the title is clearly because the author thought these people were speaking French. Not only that they didn't spoke french but there will be a long time before people there use french as a native lenguage. Not before the middle of the 20th century.
My father was born in the middle of Cathars Land so I have some little knowledge of their history.
To be honest, this is maybe an anecdotical things but it refrains me to play this game.

No, of course not!! Latin up to the 7th century and greek up to 15th. And even in Turkish it was still called "?os?an??n?ye" , until 1930!!

Well, I first learned about the occitan culture, when I read John Barnes's Thousand Cultures series!! Fascinating stuff!!

Dusting off my art/literature high school memories, occitan = Langue d'Oc that, together with the langue d'Oil, were the basis for the modern French language

Modern French is based mostly on langue d'Oil.
Langue d'Oc is a different lenguage with a prestigious literacy (the troubadours), still alive nowadays even only spoken by few peoples, mostly aged ones in rural areas (and therefore slowly fading away).

I speak it but I'm an exception for my age group. Catalan is sometimes considered a variant of langue d'Oc as it is very very close.
It is also spoken in some part of italian Piemont.
