A1000 1MB piggyback hack

Earlier today I posted scans of an article in Amazing Computing (from 1987) that details how to upgrade a stock A1000 to 1MB of RAM. I posted the links in a thread over at a.org (look at the 7th post). I figure there are a bunch of people who would like to see this, I certainly plan to try this hack on my A1000!

I got the scans from corsavert over at a.org (a fellow Canuck ), send all praise his way.

HI Narmi,

First of all, thanks for the Svideo adapter..it works great.

With regards to this topic, I have done this years ago and was quite happy with it (during that time, the extra 512K plugin memory was still expensive) so I did this "piggyback" project which worked perfectly. There was also some software patch that you can readily get in one of the FISH disks.

Unfortunately, I got rid of my first A1000 (i regret this after) when I have to PC environment (could you imagine -in exchange for an IBM PC!).

I am wondering if this piggyback will work with the added memory module in the front of the A1000 so as to get beyond 1Meg.

Also these days, I don't have much access to 4464 chips anymore.

Just want to mention that make sure you get the right 4464 chips (stated in the article). They are not the same as the common chips from PC Motherboards. They are not same as the 41464 RAM readily seen in old 286-486 IBM PCs/Clones.

As I mentioned above, I had a fun time doing this years ago! Probably still want to do it but I have since gotten myself a memory board..

Also don't forget to geta copy of the Patch for the Kikstart disk..

Happy Modding!
