Demo DVD

Hi Guys..

I have decided I might do an Amiga Demo/Game Intro DVD..

What I plan to do is rip game intro's and demos/megademos and then write them to a DVD with proper menus etc..

Now what I want to know is....

IS ANYONE INTERESTED IN HELPING OUT?

I will make the DVD available free as a d/l from my ftp and/or I will send the DVD to peeps (Assuming my costs are covered.. probs £1 per disc and postage!!)

If yhou wanna help out then what we need to do is firstly get a dfinitive list of game intro's/outro's listed and also demos listed to be incorporated (Anything visual is possible from megademos to slideshows!!)

Lets get the ball rolling and get a list of what people would like to see.. and also a list of peeps interested in helping out (grabbing the footage or creating the menu's etc..)

---

I'll edit this post with complete listings as demos are added

I'd like to help if I can. I can grab footage (but only through WinUAE), I have a DVD writer, and I'm a bit of a demo fan (AGA stuff, mostly).

Best of luck. It sounds a great idea and I'd definitely take a copy off your hands. If you could have the option to play ALL demos at once as well that would be great as well.

Id definitely be interested in buying a copy of this as a DL would be too large for my dial up connection.

I dont know how to grab footage from WinUAE but if its not too difficult:

What about featuring footage of games being played to their best? We all have our favourites that we are especially good at, i.e Bloodwych playing Bloodwych, me playing Chaos Engine, Akira playing a Shoot em up etc. This would show the games at their best. Maybe playing a classic tune from these games while they are being played would also be cool?

Good idea, but have no time to help out with any ripping.

Always thought it would be a interesting project to chart the advancement of demo effects. Like from the very shakey line vectors, through filled, transforming, light source, space cut, circles right up to texturing *spit*. then you have the copper effects, plasma, rotation zooming, etc etc.

Just an idea I've been thinking about not doing anything about.

Good luck any way.

Just on thought, I would rather see them recorded as played on an Amiga than through WinUAE.

If it's compatible, I don't see that it makes any difference.

Also, if you recorded directly from an Amiga, the picture quality wouldn't be as good (because it'd have to go through a capture device before being encoded).

Nobody would know the difference anyway, so I don't see the problem.

I also think that just taking footage from real Amigas stops a lot of those of us who emulate from adding stuff.

Interesting project...

I tried recording "State of the art" some months ago, but had difficulties with the video/audio codecs.

I tried Huffyuf and MJpeg, because they provide the best encoding quality. WinUAE creates these files but the file header reads "1000 fps" or so which I had to correct before processing the files with an MPEG2-encoder.

There is also another problem with WinUAE concerning the output file size/written frames. It would be nice if Toni added an automatic file-splitting feature.

Btw. "State of the art" is the demo to show you the limits of MPEG2 encoding - look at the interference patterns (circles)...

Okay guys.. It'll be quite easy for all to get involved.. I'll be creating a WinUAE config (As that'd be better than actually grabbing from the miggy!!)

As for grabbing the resultant AVI.. Best bet is for ppl with NTFS filesystem.. uncompressed frams and huge HD's is recomended, then it is simply chopped/edited in VDub or whatever then converted directly to MPeg2 with TMPGenc or whatever..

Anyway read THIS thread for more info..

Also can we start posting game/demo names that ppl wanna see..

State Of The Art is in

Its quite easy and I'll post a config and instructions nearer the time.. I'd recommend using an NTFS (XP) file-system tho!!

This is a good idea but....

Have you tried playing a game whilst grabbing footage?

Even though it might generally work okay.. it'll have probs with speed and playing Chaos Engine at 5fps is not fun!!

Anyway Dast have a play and lemme know your results

I have recorded and played at the same time, it ran normal speed and I didn't realise that it was actually recording. It all just depends on the speed of your machine and if it is capable of being able to do HD intensive things without killing itself.

Jul 15, 2003 10:48 am: Amiga pre-production is officially underway! We have finally obtained the base equipment we need: An RGB Spectrum Videolink 1650x broadcast scan converter, a professional NTSC/PAL video monitor... and, oh yes, an A500, A1200, A3000, and A4000 (the latter with an '060 accelerator and 3D card).

The 3D accelerator was an unexpected contribution -- are there any Amiga demos out there with support for 3D accelerator cards? Along those lines, we also have a CD32 -- were any CD32 demos ever made? Please contact us if you have answers to these questions.

We're trying to get a teaser trailer ready for Assembly 2k3, which we will post here the second week of August. -- Trixter

I'd like to see a DVD with some extras. Interviews with some of the leading lights of the scene, and I'm sure that amateur footage from the scene parties must exist somewhere...

I just attempted this and found that it ran quite slow unless i used a much smaller scren size.

Any suggestions? or is my PC just too weak?

Cool.. but this project will be slightly different as it wont be limited to just Demos.. It'll cover Intro's/Outro's. Game playing (If there is enuff interest in this) and more

The Demos will simply be added after, but bedt of all this will be pretty much FREE... Cost of a DVD and postage and bobs yer uncle

Okay I recommend 400x300 to take overscan into account, we can edit the resultant AVI after

Also if you have an NTFS filesystem turn of compression, the files will be huge, but the slowdown less noticable

makesure nothing else is running in the BG
