modify extern amiga diskdrive to intern

Hi

is it possible to modify an original extern amiga 500disk drive to an intern?

If yes, How?

I have one good extern floppy drive, I swap it in to the A500 and it doesnt work there.

Perhaps it's a PC type floppy drive. If it is, then it can be modified to work internally.

What type of external floppy drive is it (Cumana, etc.)? And what is the manufacturer and type of the disk drive unit which you have removed from the external drive enclosure?

Can an external floppy drive be used as an internal one? Has it been done before?

I know these day it's easy due to thing being so compatible, but those were the days that compatibility issues were at there highest and not everything would work due to manufacturers quirks etc....

EDIT: Cheers prowler, you've just named the external drives I used to own. It's amazing what you can suddenly remember here

Your original external floppy drive might contain a PC-compatible unit and an interface circuitry to make it suitable for connection to the Amiga's external port. This is not as unlikely as it might sound. PC units have always been a cheaper option.

Please say what the drive manufacturer and type number is, then we can move forward.

The external floppy drive as no name. The floppy who is inside the external floppy drive is a MSDA020K31 CITIZEN 18DEG 0619

Maybe it had to do with the switche DS0 and DS1?

Yes, the CITIZEN OSDC-45C is an 880K Amiga disk drive, and should work internally.

In which position is the DS0/DS1 switch? Maybe that is the problem.

I can confirm I have done this twice, on an A600 and A1200 with 2 different drives.
Both are now permanent and work.

The Citizen unit is compatible, just move the switch from DS1 to DS0 and you are ready to go.
