Network issues
Hello,
I've got an odd problem that I've not been able to solve. I have a towered A1200 with Mediator that I used as my only computer up to the early 2000s. Recently I managed to get a TF1260 to replace my faulty Apollo 060/66. Everthing has installed and working well, bar a couple of niggles. Workbench 3.9, the necessary patches but not too laden. I use Genesis for the networking and it connects to my router fine - I can ping etc. I can connect to FTP and websites, but as soon as I attempt a larger file transfer or loading a website that has more than a "splash screen" it hangs the connection. I can no longer ping the router etc. BUT Genesis doesn't realise it's disconnected. It also seems to disconnect at random if I do nothing, noticeable because of using AmiTimeKeeper (no clock on the TF1260). I've tried looking at the settings, but everything seems correct to me. I'd be grateful if anyone's experienced similar and has any info Cheers Brunty |

I have a similar issue with some RTL8029 network cards in different machines. I was never able to resolve it. I ended up changing network cards.

Hi Darren,
Weird one. I can't figure out if the card is at fault, it's the one that have used since the early 2000s. Unfortunately my efforts to find a replacement have not been fruitful. |

Search eBay for "Realtek 8139" - should get lots of hits for cheap PCI cards. I've had more success with these than the 8029 based cards with my Mediator 1200.

This is no doubt a problem with the router (I assume ISP provided crap?), not the Amiga.
I'd try putting a switch between the card and the problematic router. |
