SONY VAIO PCMCIA CD-ROM on an AMIGA 1200
I have an old sony vaio notebook.
It has an external cd player with a standard built-in pcmcia connector. No power supply. It gets the power directly from the connector. I have tried to connect the cd player to my amiga 1200's pcmcia port. It seems to be accepted. no problems. the computer runs normaly in any condition. I can eject the tray and load a disc. if I insert a disc inside, the player can recognize it and initialize. The main problem is that I cannot use the drive with WB. I guess I have to install and mount a proper driver in order to use the device. PLEASE can somebody suggest me a generic driver to use with? Which lines I should insert in my startup-sequence for a better usage? thanks in advance |

AFAIK there is no such driver... the only relevant thing that comes in mind is the squirell, a scsi-2-pcmcia interface, but its drivers wont work with what u use...

It wont work. The Vaio CD-rom uses custom hardware and only works with the Vaio notebook.
I have a Vaio notebook but no CD-rom so if you want to sell it PM a price. |

but the way, connected to the amiga port, it looks to be operative but WB cannot recognize the unit. on the vaio user manual it's written that the connector is a standard pcmcia 2.0 adapter for the atapi/ide cd-rom player. it is not a custom HW becuase I used it on a NEC notebook (OS win 98se, win xp). No generic IDE/SCSI drivers for WB 3.1 to use with the pcmcia port? |
