broderbund france was represented by Microids for translation/distribution.

Source ? Read Joystick magazine, there is info about that in it but i don't remember
which one. Microids was the french seller distributor, it's a fact.

the US version was sold by Broderbund USA, the french game was licensed to sell
by microids under Broderbund France label, and Domark was licensed for distribution
in england. I just don't know about german one.

see ya !

Ooops...gotta jump in here for a second.
Thanks dlfrsilver for the good eyes ... BUT ... if and only if Microids was distributor *AND* publisher in France, "Microids" as publisher will be correct.
To my knowledge, Domark published *and* distributed the game in UK.
But I do not know whether Microids published the game as well in France.
Companies that solely distribute games (e. g. LEADER in Italy!) will never appear in the Publisher field in HOL; if this happens, it is wrong and must be fixed

As we're here:
there's some missing information in HOL still.
(My fault, but I simply don't know enough yet. )

Because, "Prince de Perse" was actually sold on TWO compilations in France (thanks must go to WHD installer author JOTD for supporting his fairly grubby ;-)
great disk scan as an invaluable proof!):

[1] Le temps des héros
[2] Super Héros

The second compilation was sold on Ebay France, so both the existence of this game and the contents of the compilation are now 100% verified.
Compilation #1, however, seems hard to find.

BTW I already asked JOTD about the information discrepancy in his WHD readme and the information on the CAPS entry for #2290, but got no reply anymore.

Please look:

Quote:
(French version "Le temps des heros" compil, IPF ID 2290)
(from the readme)

and here's the CAPS entry...

One of those information texts MUST be wrong here.

Who can safely say whether the version from the Super Héros compilation is indeed IDENTICAL to the one from the Le temps des héros compilation?!
Both information texts are mutually exclusive to some extent, hence I smell something fishy about -at least- one of them.

Any clues?! fiath? IFW?

No idea. Perhaps JOTD has both and found they were the same...

PS andreas, caps 2290 was made from my original disk !!!
JOTD got my caps to be supported......
Hello in fact i own :
- le temps des héros version,
- NRJ compilation vol.4 version (modified and so refused because there was a save game on it)
- super héros version.

I own 4-5 original disks versions of the game which i bought for 3-4 ones from an old amiga reseller called IFA located in french department 59 (north of france).
these version were replacement disks he has on palettes :-D

by the way all the french versions are the same, Prince de perse V1.0 translated/distributed by microids under the banner Broderbund France.

A nice way with rawdic installer, when you have a different version it doesn't
install and that's why we have to MFMWARP the disks and send them to be supported.

For example i own the retail version of Carcharodon which is unsupported by Galahad whdload install at the moment and unsupported by caps as stated. Ziriax is also concerned, as my version is alternate again and is not supported by whdload install......(my god ! What the hell i got all these ones ? why me huh ??? :-D).

At last the thing i love the most is that games installer are a good way to know if the original is working or failing. If it's right, you can install, if the disk is errored, it crash
or get a no sync found and then pfffftt exit.

PS i join disks scans made from my disks for you to check

Thanks!
Whee, now that is a LOT of stuff to go thru!

First the one on the left ... is this a FRENCH one too?!
(with 'NIVEAU' instead of 'LEVEL' when you start the game, but English title screen )

Infogrames doesn't yet appear in HOL at all as publisher or distributor, so I guess from the pic that Infogrames too published the French version in France?!

Last thing:
can you SWEAR that the 'temps des héros' version is identical to the 'super héros' version?
Again, I'd like to get this discrepancy between JOTD's readme and the CAPS entry sorted. The "who's who", that is.
You say that CAPS 2290 was made from your original disk, but not from WHICH of those. CAPS says it was version 1, JOTD's readme says it was version 2.

Like it says in the version field it is Super Heros.
Temps des heros is not dumped.

Hello guys,

->First the one on the left ... is this a FRENCH one too?!
(with 'NIVEAU' instead of 'LEVEL' when you start the game, but English title screen )

andreas, as you see, the disk with infogrames on it is from a french compilation called
NRJ VOL.4 compilation only distributed by infogrames so yes you're right.
That was the first french version i sent to caps that was refused cause it was modified with a save state on it.
I have installed all these versions with whdload i will ask JOTD why he says that it's V2
as the game revision is V1.0 on these 3, so they are identical to me.

-> Last thing:
can you SWEAR that the 'temps des héros' version is identical to the 'super héros' version?
Again, I'd like to get this discrepancy between JOTD's readme and the CAPS entry sorted. The "who's who", that is.
You say that CAPS 2290 was made from your original disk, but not from WHICH of those. CAPS says it was version 1, JOTD's readme says it was version 2.

-> I can confirm that the game tells you if you press the right key that it's
PRINCE DE PERSE V1.0 so the game is not an older or newer version.

POP version from Compil NRJ VOL.4, LE TEMPS DES HEROS, SUPER HEROS are rightly
the same. The last version we have to find is the french Retail version.

Well a game can be different although saying the same version number, so both Denis and Andreas are right.
I think maybe Denis should dump the undumped "temps des heros" version I will compare the ipf data, and post the result here so everyone can be happy.
If it will be any different there will be a new ipf, if not then just as Denis said the only thing left to do is find the retail French version which once found will possibly match all the others.

btw: you can read in the whdl install that the two versions of pro tennis tour are the same in caps, but that is only true because whdl does not use the game boot, which is different. Since it may or may not have reasonable changes and we want to preserve all possible versions both were made available as ipfs.

No no no ...

JOTD did not say it is V2, that was just my abbreviation
I defined
- Version 1 = super héros
- Version 2 = le temps des héros

The 1 and 2 are just a number, no real version number, for distinguishing the version types and that I don't always have to type them out -- sorry for the confusion

OK. Well, IFW confirmed that the Le temps des héros is not dumped, but JOTD writes in his readme that he included support for the version Le temps des heros and added, "IPF ID 2290" - look:
Quote:
French version "Le temps des heros" compil, IPF ID 2290
This must imply for the reader that Le temps des heros version is IDENTICAL to CAPS 2290
(which it apparently is not).
So JOTD's info on the readme must be incorrect, as IFW knows what he says and what's dumped and what is not.

=> Thanks IFW.

=> Sorry to go into extreme nitpicking here, but for me as a HOL editor this *is* important, as we absolutely don't want to put wrong information there.

Well, we do not know whether they are identical or not, possibly they are though, but until they are compared the only correct answer is that we simply do not know yet.

Cheers. If you encounter the original release of Pick'n Pile that would be appreciated

...and in return you'd be pleased to know that Carcharodon is now supported - and in fact the only good disk I've ever seen of it dumped - I guess compensates nicely for the modified disks

Thanks a lot!
This will save me LOTS of work, as I can include compilation #2 into "Prince de Perse" HOL entry!
