What the hell was wrong with Double Dragon 2?

I remember that it only ran on old Amiga models(1.2 i guess).
If you tried it on newer Amigas the gfx would really mess up.
Now was it only the cracked version that behaved like this or was the original game screwed up too?
The developers must have lost some serious cash if this was the case.

Ok after reading some post on this board it has come to my attention that maybe I need a downgrader program.
Can i find these in .adf format or do all of em require a HD?

Ps. I want this game to run on my reall Amiga500, not an emu.

Yep, thsi game is a bastard, doesnt work with softkicking your machine into older kickstarts. I think it either is a problem of need of slow RAM, or a problem with the gfx chipsets? Anyway, it just wont work , if you have an HD, you better look for an HD installed, patched version.

Yes, the latter.
It's an AGNUS problem. Amigas with the newer AGNUS chips can't run this game. Maybe it would be useful to have an option in future versions of WinUAE to set the AGNUS chipset. (8372 or 8372A).

Modulo problem

It was a modulo problem, which Richard Aplin fixed, but the original cracked versions were by then quite old, no-one wanted to recrack a game just to fix this bug.

WHDLoad version supports all versions (legal) of Double Dragon 2.... I might do a new ADF version so that it will work on WinUAE, but maybe Toni wants to cater for the stupid problems of this game !!

So this information about AGNUS old/new is definitely wrong?

Anyway, it would be a useful thing if you made an ADF for WinUAE, Galahad, because this one could be written to REAL disks and made work on newer Amigas directly from disk!

Hmm. I have very dense memories of this game from when I had an Amiga that it would work on (I have three copies of the original and they all are flaky). Despite how long it's been, the only memories I have of this game are that it's rubbish. Am I mistaken here and thinking of another game, or is my memory spot on?

It does work on real Amigas, but only on those that have the 512K Agnus installed ( 8371 ).
I couldn't play it all the years because my A-500 already had the 1MB Agnus installed when I bought it
Now, a year or two ago, when I bought some old A-500s for spare, I finally could play Double Dragon II, and in my opinion it isn't that bad. It's at least an average beat'em up game.

Double Dragon II

was a spot on conversion (PAL) of a so-so arcade game..... please don't confuse it with the first lame port of Double Dragon on Amiga....... that really was a nasty piece of 'work'.

Thanks!
