help: A3 scanner suggestions
I've just changed jobs and no longer have access to the fast A3 scanner I had before. This means that my scanning capacity for AMR will be quite limited until I get one for myself. My HP7400C is a great scanner, but it can't handle the wide magazines.
Can anyone here recommend some good A3 scanners? I'm looking for something relatively fast (I can use SCSI/firewire/USB2), and hopefully not too expensive as I'm fairly broke at the moment. I'm definitely not interested in getting a USB 1 scanner though as these are painfully slow, even for a standard A4 page. |

@Galaxy:
I have seen reference to some Windows software for stitching together scanned images to arhieve the same result as using a larger scanner. It only gives acceptable results with flatbed scanners (I assume you're talking about these types), or the joins are too easily evident. I'm sure I remember playing with this software shortly after I bought my scanner to see what was possible, but I would rarely, if ever, have use for such a utility. I'll have a look around and see if I kept it. If so, you're welcome to try it to see if it's any help to you in the short term. |

I have a fair bit of experience doing this with Photoshop, it's not ideal though and often you can't get a perfect join as the page won't sit 100% on the scanner bed due to the magazine binding. It's certainly too time consuming to consider doing this for more than covers.

Maybe not - but there are plenty of digital copiers which would do the job that dont have all the fancy attachments... Plus they can replace your printer and they are cheap to run... All you really need is around 2ftx2ft floor space!

I have a Mustek ScanExpress A3 scanner... bought it about 3 years ago. It's awefully slow and now I can't use it since there are no drivers for Vista 64...

Decent A3 scanners tend to cost quite a lot Another option would be to look for a Ricoh IS330 / 430 or 450 second hand. or any A3 flatbed by Bowe Bell & Howell or Fujitsu... You will only find cheap ones 2nd hand though - most retail at over £1500 |
