What was the name of this vertical shooter?
Hi guys, nice site. I've posted a few times before under the name of Cam.
I started getting back into Amiga games a couple of months ago, and I've assembled almost all of my old games. The only one I can't identify is a futuristic vertical scrolling shoot-em-up, very similar to Battle Squadron, where you're a spaceship above a planet (which I assume is earth). Its most distinguishing feature was that you could blow up absolutely everything on the ground. All the little pointless buildings could be blown up with very satisfying noises, to the extent that you sometimes forgot about the baddies because you were enjoying causing such carnage. It's also a pretty old game, definitely older than 1990. It's definitely not one of the following: Hybris Battle Squadron Xenon 1 / 2 I've got the word "Phoenix" in my head, but I haven't found a game called that on any site. Also I vagualy remember that it could have been produced by a company called Arcadia. Any ideas? |

I think the word 'Phoenix' in the title is a red herring, myself. Aside from Mega Phoenix, I only know of Phoenix Fighters (Thrust derivative) and an unreleased Wing Commander-esque game, called simply Phoenix. Info: http://heizmann.mp3recordz.de/projects/phoenix.html

Definitely not a "S.U.C.K" game
I wish I could remember more about it, but my memories tend to get mixed up between Hybris and Battle squadron. Come to think of it, I think this game must be pre-1988 as I got it with my amiga at the end of 1987. |

Hmm. The graphics to Foundation's Waste look similar to it. Close, but no Lewinski.

Cool, Hellbent! I'd completely forgotten this game existed.
You know what, I'm wondering whether this could be it. I'll download it and try it out (I'm in work atm, so this may take a while). Insanity fight is along the right lines, but I think the graphics are better on the other one. Also, the buildings take several hits to destroy, and if I remember rightly, you can just waste everything with one shot on insanity fight. |

Walker suggested Sidewinder - it's Arcadia.
Arcadia was the name of some arcade machines which used Amiga hardware - therefore easy conversions... (Unless I've made a stupid mistake and it was from another company called Arcadia) |

That's it!!! You absolute star!
Thanks a lot for your help. Now I'm off to pummel the sh*t out of some perfectly innocent civilian buildings. |
