1) remove fdd from a4k and remove front panel
2) plug fdd into a12k
2b) if it's a thick floppy drive, you'll notice you're unable to fit the covers back on properly. leave covers off or force them together, with the seams bulging
3) enjoy HD floppy goodness

As long as its a HD drive, as you say from a 4000, then no.

Ok Ive tried to get this A4K HD floppy to work on my A1200T and all i seem to get is a burring noise when it tries to read a disk. Tried to boot two drives on the same cable on the A1200 but it spins up and doesnt read. Any ideas?

have you put crossdos in your w/b startup drawer and put PC0 in device drivers first
otherwise it wont read pc discs

It should work just fine. I hope you didn't plug the power cable in backwards or miss some pins.

Nope all ok...I just dont understand it. I will however install os3.1 and see where we go from there....The A1200 has 3.1roms so I thought it would have at least worked!.

Either the Amiga or the drive is broken, if you indeed have all cables connected correctly.

Nah this worked in the A4000 till I took it out. I'll take some pictures and post them - see if anyone can see anything out of place...

Just to check the obvious, the drive, when fitted in the A4K, was df0: wasn't it.... if not, you will need to set the device jumper on the drive to 0

Oh, one thing crossed my mind. Is this an Amiga Technologies motherboard? It will not work correctly there unless you remove the modifications they did to the floppy connector wiring..

Lightbulb

@Alwis yes did all that - still not working however the guy gave me a beatup old floppy drive and im using that on the same cable. So the cable does work...

@Jope I didnt see any mods on the board when I rebuilt the A1200T

Just puzzled why it wont work.

Is there anyone in South Wales who could try an A4000 HD floppy drive for me?.
