A1200 right mouse button issue

Hello,

I've an issue with the right mouse button working on my A1200, here's the lowdown:

- I can get into the startup menu by holding left and right buttons.
- I cannot access the right button menu in Workbench (have to use the keyboard shortcut).
- When playing Cannon Fodder, the men are constantly firing their guns as if the right button is permanently on.
- I used a program called portswitcher, which allowed me to use the joystick port with a mouse - same issue.
- When trying to play Cannon Fodder, if I take the mouse out the port, they keep on firing.

It's as if the right mouse button is constantly being pressed ? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Also, I can get into the startup menu by just pressing the left mouse button - confirming the fact that the Amiga thinks that the RMB is being pressed.

This happens with two different mice - one old, one brand new.

Just noticed that with the sound up, I hear a distortion noise when I click with the RMB - like it's shorting out or something.

Hi just repaired a CD2 where the mouse/joy port had a similar problem in my case it was two bad connections from the Connecter pins to the motherboard ,I had to do two short jumper leads and all is fine now.

You will need to check continuity from the port pins and see if there is any breaks on the pcb, also you should check the smd components regarding the mouse right button circuit, so download a schematic and have a root round

I'm in no way technical like that, so I'm a bit screwed. If I bought a replacement motherboard, could I just swap it out or does that require any techie skillz (soldering, etc)?

Yes to swap the board will be easy, then get that other board repaired/looked at by someone perhaps on here

Also one very important point NEVER plug in mice or joysticks while the Amiga is on ,you have a good chance of blowing chips

Guess what - similar issue (only) with a USB-Amiga adapter.
If i keep tapping right in Workbench it does then work.
I thought I read it happens more on 2B boards. Timing issues?

I will get around to doing most of the timing corrections on my 2B board so it will be interesting if that solves it.

I've had the same problem with right mouse button on my A600 with original Amiga mouse, the problem was the broken CIA, after replacing it everything worked like a charm.

Thanks for this thread. Interestingly, in my case, I have the RMB issue but it corrects itself after about 5 minutes when "something" has warmed up. Anyone know what this could be?

The CIA has nothing to do with the right mouse button. This is a common fault on A1200s that are suffering damage from capacitor leakage, so it sounds like there's a connection (usually a via) that's borderline.

I have been playing with the Smally mouse open source project for a couple of weeks and "As is" the RMB will not work on the A1200 Rev2B while it appears to work perfectly on other computers. Scouring the internet proved worthless as it appears the person who solved the issue (and is selling them on ebay) has never released how he did it.

But! thanks to Mkstr and Nonarkitten i have been able to get the USB mouse working in all computers. Once i check them all and play around with component values to try to zone in on the best settings i will release the mod detals (Unless the person who has already done it releases it first) and i will forward the info to the original author Simon Inns

I have a mouSTer that seems to have the same issue. It won't trigger rmb on my a1200, but when unreturned it for another, they tested just fine on an a600.
Please can you share how to get it working on an a1200 2b?
Cheers.
