According to the manual, you have to press red and green buttons at the same time:

Probably to be able to advertise the game as "enhanced for CD32".

But seriously, it does not make sense. They use a button combination while there are other buttons that remain unused

Perhaps they based the control scheme on the release made on another console, notably if the other console had only two buttons (like the Master System).

Or maybe the Amiga original version was planned to have a control scheme to allow the use of two-button joysticks? And then, when doing the CD32 they have only adaptaed the control scheme to the CD32 joypad?

Although I have to say I appreciate developers enhancing the controls for CD32 pads, I gotta say this doesn't really work well in Zool 2.

There were no ports of Zool 2 for any other machine so the control scheme comes only for the CD32. I am one of those that hates pressing UP on the joypad to jump, so I appreciate control schemes made for joypads.

yep they used a button combination they were crazy
they must be put that action in the yellow button which is unused
but I think the problem comes because they added a jump button and they removed jumping with the joy-up......then of course you need to use jump button +fire instead joy up+fire

there are zool 2 ports for the PC and the jaguar console
however the CD32 version is the better one...except for this detail in the controls

Happy

Lol, actually, I have missed the 2 in the thread title (and in the 1st post) I guess I was not fully awake!

So what I linked to is the manual for Zool 1 CD32.
Funnily it solved clauddio's issue

I guess Zool 2 inherited the control scheme of Zool 1.
And Zool 1 had a good deal of console ports, hence my idea of the controls coming from a console with only two buttons (except start/select ofc).

Oh I didn't know! Would love to check the Jaguar version someday. I bet it has no slowdowns :P

[edit] checked out on Youtube, not only has no slowdowns, the sprites look beautiful, with more colours. Really nice stuff. Kind of makes me want a Jaguar, Zool 2 is one of my favourite games ever.

Well a CD32 version with those sprites and no slowdown would be awesome, but I am pretty sure it's technically impossible. Also, the loading times suck.
