Homemade controller/joystick?
The simply things seem to confuse me beyond belief, my goal is make a proper arcade style controller for my Amiga.
I got some info for this from here : http://www.hardwarebook.info/Amiga_Mouse/Joy http://www.gamesx.com/misctech/controltech.htm According to the pin outs theres a ground and a +5 but I can't work out where they would go. In my head I am thinking that Up,Down,Left,Right would go to there appropiate places and then do I just put the ground (GND) on the other side of the switch, so when a button/movement is pressed it would it would cross Up with Ground and work??? Thanks for any help |

A basic digital controller can be implemented with pushbutton switches connected between the appropriate input lines (/LEFT, /RIGHT, etc.) and the GND line, just as you thought.
The +5V line can be used as power supply voltage for fancier things, like autofire (a small electronic circuit that pulls the /BUTTON1 line to GND periodically as far as the 'Fire' pushbutton is pressed), or connecting extra buttons (search 'cd32joy.lha' on www.aminet.net - it shows the schematics of the CD32 controller, minus the four directional buttons). |

Thank you for your help, I was confused as that seemed a little too simple to me. I just wanted to be sure because I was going to buy a Sanwa stick and push buttons, its just something I always wanted. I guess :

DrF, are you using all seven CD32 buttons so you can use the stick for Amiga fighting games and other newer games, or just a one-button setup?
