Please advice for an A-600 HD partitioning and format

I got an A-600 with 1MB trapdoor expansion as well as a 2MB PCMCIA fastram expansion, Kick 2.0 (37.350)
Now, I would like to install a 1.2GB HD since my old one died.

The question befroe I do anything else is, how should I partition the HD ?
I think it makes sense to make 2 partitions, one for the system (Workbench), and one for other stuff, like e.g. WHD-Games, Apps, etc. (Work)

Would this be a good idea ? And how much space should I give each partition ?

Formatting:
Is there some recommended tool to format Amiga HDs ? Preferably one which can continue to format, even if it finds an error, and can mark this error block as used, so that nothing will be written to it?
I only know of the one included in Workbench 2.0, but it quits as soon as it find an error, and also is quite slow, I think ?

There is no better format tool. Modern IDE and SCSI harddrives usually don't report write errors back to the operating system but handle them internally. *If* such a harddrive reports a write error, then it already has *so many* of them that you should replace it immediately.

That said, IMHO it is silly to fully format a hard drive. Quick format is totally sufficient.

Regarding partitions, I would make a 100 MB boot partition, a 800 MB work partition and a 300 MB backup partition.

You'd probably get quite a big speed boost if you use PFS3 instead of FFS.
