cheapest option for an A1200 accelerator?

I'm looking for expanding my stock A1200 into something that can run at least whdload games. I'm not looking for nothing fancy, just the cheapest option to be able to run installed games.

If anyone could guide me through the available options I'll be really grateful!

There's a very comprehensive guide to basically all available accelerator options over at amibay.com in the "AmiOracle" section. The thread is sticky and easy to find. I think it'll answer all your questions...

If you only want to play games, you probably don't really need an accelerator. Have you considered a RAM Expansion? Do you use the PCMCIA slot at all?

Yes, FAST RAM card would give you both more RAM memory and a nice 2.5 X speedup for your machine.

If you are willing to cough up a little more moneahz, there's ACA1221EC 25MHz, for about 130EUR. That's a regular little speed demon there

Just bear in mind that the ACA will most likely need a timing fix on the A1200 which is simple to do as you just need to remove 2 SMD caps on the bottom of the board. You'll need some soldering skills to carry this out.

If you just want to play WHDLoad the A1200 will run plenty of them with its 2mb chip ram but adding a 1208 fast ram card or even a PCMCIA fast ram card will get you there.

The ACA is probably the best bang for buck out there though but as I said it just hangs on that timing fix is its required or not.

Does anyone else know where things are with the TF328 or TF330 being brought over to the 1200?

After reading that sticky a FASTRAM card is what I want. Thanks!

Thanks for the replies guys, very helpful.
I think I just need a fastram card, nothing more. I have an A2000/030 50mhz that I use for things that needs a little more speed. But the A1200 was kind of a disappointment, I mean in the sense that the machine without an accelerator is just an A500 but has a lot of incompatibility issues with disks based games made for the OCS/ECS chipset.
So I will look for a FastRam card to gain some Mbytes and be able to play the whdload versions of the games.
Thanks!!

Don't go the PCMCIA RAM route -- it won't affect games that run in chip RAM by default, but on games that try to load into fast RAM first it will actually slow your A1200 down (PCMCIA RAM is slower than chip RAM), whereas trapdoor fast RAM will make those games run faster.

The A1200 is not "just" a 500. It has a 68020, KS 3.1, IDE and PCMCIA support.

Not to forget the AGA chipset, which is in many ways superior to OCS/ECS.
