OS3.2 Titlebar clock
Is there a way to display time in the titlebar without hacks?

Yes, install DateVar from Aminet and follow the enclosed instructions.

Or for something very simple get screentime again from aminet. Very simple and easy small utility adding the time date etc on the upper right corner of yr taskbar.

The only downside to ScreenTime is that (since it opens a tiny window) if Workbench needs to close and then reopen, you'll need to disable/remove it from Commodity Exchange, then enable or re-run it again afterwards.

Have you tried BarClock? It shows the date as well as the time on the bar.

DateVar used the new OS3.2 option to embed Env-vars in the title bar. It does not need an overlay or special treatment when closing Workbench e.g. after changing the screen mode .

Is it possible to configure this DateVar based clock so that it stays in a designared place before the screen cycle gadget, and does not disappear as soon as you (for example) start composing the HippoPlayer playlist?
Once I used the Gui4Cli package to not only place the clock on the Workbench tittle bar, but also network availability status, and buttons to launch some commonly used software - like iGame or DirectoryOpus4. It would probably be possible to place a progress bar showing memory availability too with just a bit of coding (I would have to check the documentation, I haven’t played with this package since quite some time), like MorphOS does. |

Very Similar question to both maxx11111 & crazyc – I could really do without the day of the week being displayed; is there any way to configure DateVar so the day isn't shown?
DateVar does a good job of getting the clock onto the Title Bar. It would be so much better if it has some basic selectable options. |

You can put the datevar time on the right with a bunch of space characters. Not elegant, but it works

I use BarClock for this, used to use MCP or something to do it previously but BarClock seemingly works without issue, no idea if its considered an unstable hack or not? and its tooltypes lets you include/exclude whatever screen title bars you want it to show on. I have also tried the native OS3.2 vars but i couldnt get it placed where i wanted so went back to using BarClock as its right justified quite nicely.

So I did some editing of my Workbench Screen Title Bar Text (in Workbench Preferences) it now reads :
%e DateVar OS %r %mceb chip mem %mfeb fast which results in the Title Bar displaying e.g. : Friday 10-May-24 15:22 OS Release 3.2.2.1 821,272 chip mem 6,064,624 fast mem My ScreenMode is PAL High Res. so there isn't much space, which was why I would of liked the option to not have the day of the week included. I'm pretty happy with how it looks now. It was a bit of a fiddle getting it to look good so maybe someone else on High Res. will find this helpful. In High Res. if you have more RAM i.e. over 1MB chip or 10MB fast, it wouldn't fit in the bar. If I needed more space personally, I would remove the word "Release". To do this go to Prefs/Env-Archive/Versions/Release. Open TextEdit then drag & drop "Release" onto it, remove the word Release & then save. Last edited by Tpod; 11 May 2024 at 15:19. |

@DisasterIncarna
I'm happy with DateVar now I've done a bit of title bar editing but I get the impression BarClock & ScreenTime are both good alternatives. It's always nice to have options & BarClock would obviously work on OS3.1 for those that still use it. |

Since all DateVar is actually doing is parsing with Ed the output of the AmigaDOS command Date, I thought it could be convenient to apply formatting directly when invoking Date.
According to the documentation I think it's possible under OS3.2 using Code:
date LFORMAT "%a" EDIT: my bad, apparently the documentation I linked is OS4.x only. The Date command in OS3.2 does not support those flags. Would be great if it did. Last edited by jman; 12 May 2024 at 00:00. |
