Amiga ASCII table (exended characters)
Reading the ASM-One manual, it is said that integrated calculator allows the translation of numbers to characters and vice-versa. In addition to the English version of the ASM-One manual, the German version of the same manual states that we can refer to the ASCII table that is available in the appendix of the Amiga Basic manual (same table available online here : https://www.gladir.com/LEXIQUE/POLICES/amigaascii.htm).
Questions (from $80 to $FF) : 1) why are there differences between the table provided in the Amiga Basic manual and the ASM output (many characters missing and a big difference in the hex numbering) ? 2) Given that Topaz font is in ROM (if I am not mistaken) I even tried to boot with a 1.2 KS. But no difference in output. Was the table of the manual made upon an A1000 ? Can anyone light the candle about this difference in the extended character set that is provided in an official Commodore manual ? Any help is more than welcome. Thanks in advance. - Hex numbers in blue (the actual output) - On the screenshot yellow are characters that are referenced in the Amiga Basic manual. White ones are characters not referenced (ps: I noticed lately that the $BB (manual) = $AA (output) & $BC (manual) = $BA (output)). |

The issue comes from AmigaBasic. I don't know what it does with the characters, but it's not what it should have done.
Amiga itself uses straight ISO 8859-1. |

I see.
Following your answer I outputed an ASCII table with Amiga Basic (MS) and it is of course identical to the ASM one. Not tested with ABasiC yet. I still find strange that this table was provided as reference in the MS Basic and by the German ASM-One manual if it is incorrect . Anyway, thank you meynaf |

Ok. I looked for others Amiga Basic and found that the Microsoft Basic manual that I initially downloaded ( https://archive.org/details/AmigaBAS.../n279/mode/2up ) contains the unusual extended ASCII table. The Amiga Basic manual from Commodore contains a correct ASCII table ( https://archive.org/details/amiga-ba...age/2/mode/2up ) as well as the A500-A2000 Amiga Basic ( https://archive.org/details/commodor.../n399/mode/2up ).
Damn to think that I downloaded the only book that contained a wrong information With such luck, time to fill an Euromilion grid |
