[WIP] King & Balloon conversion
I want to introduce you to my next port. I chose the game "King & Balloon" (c) 1980 NAMCO. The target platform is once again a simple A500 without a ram expansion.
Unfortunately, it turned out that I had to adjust a lot of the code. The 42 balloons and the remaining 16 sprites are exciting here. Here are a few screenshots. The way in which the individual sub-functions are jumped was also challenging. Unfortunately it will no longer be a Christmas present. |

I didn't know this game, but typical of the era! Never reversed a Namco game before (my Pacman conversions were done from scratch), but Mark had a tough time with Xevious.
Good work! |

After a break, I wanted to briefly share the current status of my conversion. Unfortunately, an error had crept in that cost me many hours of debugging. :/ The first optimizations have also been incorporated. In the original, 16 sprites (balloons and shots) are possible, although the 7 balloons can have different colors. But there is still a lot to do. ... but see for yourself.

Nice job!!! I am glad to see the game progressing very well.
I can convert the original sound effects and music into Amiga samples if you like. Ask me. |

Looks cool. Is there somewhere we can check what conversions have been done already so we don't accidentally do the same thing?

First of all, thank you for the kind words.
A list of all conversions would be nice. The question is whether you want that for the planned implementation. Yes, I understand that the same game will not be implemented twice. But if it remains "covert" until it's finished, it's also a surprise for the community. Perhaps the developers, including future developers, should be able to discuss in a non-public area what is planned and who is currently working on what. |

Hello!
I can now announce that I have completed the first version of the port. Under itch.io is the ADF and the WHDLoad version. The theme music and joystick support are currently missing. I'll pass this all on later. However, a trainer is already available in both versions. Well, a few bugs too^^ Feel free to reports any bugs. |

So theoretically it would be possible to add an entry on HOL to keep track of started project. Is it worth of it, I don't know ? |

it looks great!
Isn't that too heavy to handle all those objects ? or is the swarm still using scrollable strips like Frogger ? |

Thank you. The stripes are still there. But after 9 steps of movement, all 42 balloon objects need to be redrawn. The balloon wall can also be scrolled very far to the left or right.
I know it's not perfect but I wanted to stay close to the original. |
