I didn't find any information if apples smbd supports the SMB1 protocol at all. Maybe not. I have not found any way to mount something with it using smbfs 2.1.
Instead I have installed samba 4.13.1 using MacPorts now. After some tweaks its working fine. Can give hints if needed... Last edited by Wepl; 24 March 2021 at 08:55. |

My solution for Samba compabitibility with old PCs and the Amiga:
[global] lanman auth = Yes ntlm auth = Yes These lower your samba daemon's security a lot, but makes it possible to connect with MS LANMAN, Win3.11, Win98, and the Amiga SMBFS. Have a firewall, you shouldn't be exposing Samba to the internet anyway. |

I can connect to my old DNS-320 NAS box, and I can see my Linux and Windows server shares, but I cannot see my macOS Big Sur share no matter what I do. Then again, even on Windows when I do a "net view" it doesn't show up, but Windows can talk to it. I've tried messing with /etc/nsmb.conf and everything else I can read about trying to make it compatible with older systems but no joy. At least I can copy from my Mac to the NAS and get to it from the Amiga 1200.

@Wepl Maybe, maybe not...
Following this page: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204021 I was able to set ProtocolVersionMap to 1, which should be SMB1. I verified on a Windows 10 system that when I connect to a share on my Mac now, it is a v1 type connection (via PowerShell): > Get-SmbConnection It shows Dialect as 1.5. Before setting ProtocolVersionMap to 1, it said 3.0.2. Still can't get the Amiga to connect though, using smbfs I get (10000, end of file). |

Giving up. On Windows, Mac, and Amiga and getting any to talk to the other. LOL
I'll just copy stuff to the NAS that they all seem to be able to speak to. |

For what its worth I also use NAS happily with smbfs. I use Synology with SMB1 protocol available and since DSM 7.0 you have to enable NTLM v1 for authentication. I only updated to DSM 7.0 yesterday but I have had no problems with smbfs, Roadshow and this NAS on DSM 6. Only desire is that it reported correct volume size. It limits out at 2 TB. But that is just nitpicking and could be OS but it is the same on OS3.2

Was having some issues with my SMBFS that I got from aminet...
Mostly it was working, but sometimes a file I transferred would show up corrupt, like a .lha file I couldn't extract. But if I FTP it over it works fine. But not always... Then I was reading about SMBFS on here, and found out the version on aminet is old. <sigh> Downloaded the latest and so far so good... And yes, I know about the SMBFS2 out there, but my really old NAS (an old Seagate one) only supports SMBv1... So yes, I'll need to replace it eventually. And then upgrade to the v2/v3 version of SMBFS. But for now, looks like it is working with SMBFS version 2.1 from Github... |
