Floppy Drive defect

HI.
PC Floppy Drive Sony modified .

Reads the floppies written by himself, but does not read any floppy written with other drive.
The other drives cannot read the floppies written by the drive in question (specifically they manage to read only the traces 0-1).

Could you recover?

you need to re-align the heads, watch this. Just make sure you are using a working floppy from other working drive.

I saw the video, but I don't understand it. She apologizes.
Could you explain it to me simply?

The Floppy Drive is a Sony MPF 920.

I am following the guide with the XCOPY method.
When I perform checkdisk with the good disc, all 5 numbers appear in red.

What does it mean?

ok, I presume for both lower and upper head you´re getting +- same results. I do own one (or few?) converted MPF920 myself and no problems using it with the amiga. If using hd disks, always make sure to cover the HD detection hole on the disk. This way the drive switches to DD mode. Try to check the disk. If you´re still getting those red 5s, then you:

1. Loosen the 2 screws only a tiny bit (just to be able to move the motor) holding the stepper motor in place (attached file, screws in red circles. Picture only as example, not from MPF920)
2. Start the checkdisk function in Xcopy again
3. VERY VERY VERY VERY gently turn the motor left or right to see changes in xcopy.

It´s really very sensitive to find the correct position of the motor, you´ll spend maybe 10-20 minutes to get it right, maybe even longer when you´re doing it for the first time. The behaviour the xcopy does is - if I remember correctly - the higher number you get, the closer you are to get the green 0s.

4. Once you´ve found your green 0s, Xcopy will throw the results faster. Tighten both screws back in place and check the disk again, fine tune if necessary.

You can´t do anything wrong really. Let us know your results

It could be a side effect that the higher numbers mean that it's close, but the error codes themselves are not sorted into any kind of order.

It just couldn't be aligned properly. Thrown away.
I tried and tried to turn the motor, but it read some discs and others not. I ordered another Drive.

Thank you for your precious support.

If you’re in the U.S., send the drive to me and I’ll align it for you. I have the proper equipment.
PM me. There’s hardly any drive that can’t be made whole again. Floppy drives are surprisingly resilient.
