New to the Amiga Emulation Scene - Question about ADF files
I am new to the Amiga Emulation scene but not new to the Amiga. I had an Amiga 1000 back when it was new and even at one point added a harddrive and 8mb of RAM. I have a question regarding ADF files. I noticed they are precisely the size of an Amiga floppy drive in bytes. Is there a more compact format available and can I convert the ADF files to that format? I am running on a Mac but would actually prefer a command line utility to do just that. I also have a Windows PC (in VM) if that is a better choice. Thanks in advance for any help or pointers.

Hi macjohnmcc, and welcome to EAB!
If you are emulating the Amiga on your Mac, the range of worthwhile conversions will depend on what file formats the emulator can recognize as disk images. WinUAE will recognize and mount DMS (DiskMasher) and ADZ (GZipped ADF) as well as zipped ADFs without additional drivers. The are 32-bit command line utilities for Windows which will produce ADZ and zipped ADF files, but DMS is an Amiga-only tool. |

You can also use RAR and 7Zip in WinUAE. Not sure e-UAE supports zip or .adz (which are the same) though.

Note that ADZ files are GZipped, and quite distinct from zipped ADF files. They are sometimes found as *.ADF.GZ files.

Ah, yes Anyway, can you check if e-UAE supports either ZIP or .adz?

Hmm... I'll have to do some digging, I guess.

That's what I've gathered from some googling aswell. macjohnmcc might want to give pUAE a try or just try WinUAE in VM

Thank you all for your input. I can run the emulation under Mac or Windows 7 easily but just am biased towards the Mac. For the time being I'll just zip the ADF files until such a time as I'm ready to use them to save on space. I'm glad to have stumbled upon your community!
