Games you admire but will probably never play

Hired Guns is a game that I greatly admire. Everything about it screams quality to me and I honestly see it as one of the best on the Amiga. So why is it I dont think Ill ever actually play it?

Lemmings is another game that I consider to be pure genius yet can bring myself to put the time it in requires.

Heimdall
Populous 2
Robocod
Qwak
and lots of others.

Is it just me or do you have games on your 'to do' list that never seem to actually get played and instead you put on the same old games youve played over and over.

I have the same type of feeling with loads of games, actually quite a few that you mentioned.

In fact anytime I read a thread / review, see a screenshot / character or sounds I will take a look in HOL. If I've never heard of it before, plus it's looks quite cool, or from a Publisher / Devoper that I like I'll add it to a ___AMIGA_Try.txt file for the future.

It's growing slowly ever week, LOL

There are soooo many games I admire, that looks great and play great... but I would never play cause they are not on my taste.

So many that I don't want to type any of them down...

But still... I have probably tried them all already .... or I wouldn't know about how great they are, would I? ... but they are not games I want to play more than 5 mins.

Perihelion looks like a perfect sci-fi rpg, I was quite impressed when I first ran this on my a500 years ago, but I couldn't figure out how to play it years ago and now I'm too lazy to learn all the new spells & stuff. has a great intro and graphics for its time.

Mercenary & Damocles

I had these when I was an Amiga user, never got anywhere. Couldnt go back to them today as they look so bland compared to todays 3D titles.

Strange because I replayed Castle Master the Crypt the other month

I tried the PC remake, and I wanted to get into it, but I expected too much from the rendering engine. It is identical to the original one.

Yup your right, the PC version is no different from the Amiga. However there was work on an enhanced PC Damocles version but it was never finished...

Legend of Cyrandia
pinball illusion, It's good looking and sounds sweet.. but it's no fun :/ the tables are, all like dead

I did however finally grab a copy of the wonderful "the longest journey".
This game is like a good book. You need some quiet time and don’t rush things.. under those conditions its superb. I guess that goes for most games.

Great thread.

I admire game writers that produce software that you can 'dive' straight into (without a 50 page manual) eg..

All Lemmings - except worlds
Cannon Fodders
Worms
All Turricans

But... this thread is about games that you admire but do not play.

I cannot admire any game that isn't readily playable, has poor controls, just too hard nor easy to understand, no matter how pretty it looks.
(No Second prize/Project X/Microprose Grand Prix etc).

You know the type... one hit and your dead

Legend of Kyrandia seriously deserves a chance. It's totally pretty, the dialogue is hilarious at times, and the soundtrack is wonderful.

For your immortal soul, give it a go =D heh.

You found it difficult to play NSP? Wow first person ever. Perhaps you chose the wrong character, different characters have different abilities to "ease" you in. Choose one with the highest handling.

Yeah i had the cracked version, so i of course had to figure out everything myself, including what commands to type in. In the end i had a whole list of all the spells i found worked in the game, and it took me a LONG time to get them all, after alot of trial and error. I actually had it all written down on quite a bit of paper, but i no longer have any idea where all that is ?.

I should go looking for it all

And your right, Perihelion is one hell of a great game!!.

Yeah agree about Captive. I really enjoyed Liberation on my CD32 but for some reason Captive is harder to get into.

Gold of Aztecs. I forgot title of that game and when I found it it was too hard to me, even if I'm better player than when I was a kid.

There is quite a lot of these games on my list !
Some I have especially preserved to play them later - a stupid idea because they won't become better with age
Others I have never played because I always thought they would to time intensive to play, so I thought I will play them later when I have more time (in fact I have less and less time... )
And, I have also become a little bit of a lazy gamer, so I like to play games which are not that long and easy completeable.

Some I always wanted to play but probably will never:

Abandoned Places II
Faery Tale Adventure
Heimdall I & II
Dragon's Lair Series
Amberstone
Ambermoon
...and probably some other RPGs like Crystal Dragon, etc.
