Thanks prowler...

Version 2.81 is now out
In both 'Full' and 'Light' versions
ArcStick version in a bit

Hmm, the 'full' version seems to be up to 186Mb now... ..?

Another 10Mb for a .21 version bump... Given RiscOS is famous for the small size of it's apps and files I suspect I missed my calling. Maybe I should go ask M$ for a job!

Ooo, what to ditch for v3...?

Hello again.

Version 3.0

Lots of new Stuff:
-Bugs squashed
-More polish
-A plop-load of new features
-Getting smaller..?
-Even easier to configure

...I'm just giving it that extra shine before uploading. I'll do a new ArcStick version for this release too.

Is this as good as RiscOS 3.1 gets? I think it's pretty close!

I hope you all enjoy my latest magnificent octopus.

Very kind, thanks prowler.

I hope you (and others) think it's worth the download. There's some obvious extras over the previous release but most of the major work is under the surface...
...I've updated / fixed / rewritten a lot of how Classic RiscOS works for additional features / niceness / stability / ease of configuration...
...oh, and I've gotten the file size down a bit - d*mn, there goes that job with M$.
There's also a hidden backdrop in there, somewhere.

As usual the full version comes with Arcularor + a tweaked 3.1 ROM + tweaked CMOS.
ArcStick comes with VA5000 + above tweaks - most of the apps. (games all present)
Lite version (when it's done) comes with nothing.

Feedback welcome - I think this is pretty close to as good as I can get it, though I have further plans...
...so future changes / improvements are likely to be driven by suggestions.

(I may actually spend some time making sure all the games + emulators work properly now I'm more pleased with the set-up. Some 'shovelling' may have gone in to those - especially the emulators)

Worth the download? Classic RiscOS is what Arculator was made for!

BTW, RPCEmu 0.8.7 has been quietly released this month.

Classic RiscOS v3.0 and ArcStick Edition archives are now also on the EAB File Server in the Misc/Various/Acorn ClassicRiscOS folder, along with the updated readme file.

Have you done something "Speshol" to patch RO 3.11 to 3.12 ? or are you running the German Version ?

Or is it an Anglified version of 3.12 ?

Or am I barking up the wrong dog ?

Andrew

EDIT:- yes I know, I'm nosey but I'm eying this up for a "Real Machine" (tm)

...

Thanks chaps, I really appreciate the kind comments.

RO3.12 - what? never heard of it?

It's the result of a converstion I had with Tom a while back - how to hack RO3.1 to work with that d*mn Turbo-board I can't get to work with anything but RO2.0.

From (dodgy) memory he hacked the boot-check code for me (and bumped the version)...
...as I've yet to buy a Rom-blower I've yet to give it a go. (sorry Tom)

He also did a little proggie (in a flash - boy he's quick!) to allow further mods to the RO3.* ROM - kind of like the Amiga Romulus/Remus apps...
...I've been meaning to get in to some majour hacking - like add out of the box serial mouse support and make the ROM-changes of Classic RiscOS part of the ROM rather than soft-loaded (saves memory). But life's (still) too busy ATM.

I hope you're enjoying CROS.

Is the Risc Os Project down?

Hi Charlie,

haven't been here for some years now,
I can't find any place for Risc Software.

Is the server closed?

Cheers
Roman

So what's it about? Well, read the front page rant...
...basically some of us Acorn, um, nuts..? are getting a little cheesed-off with the crappy scene this fantastic platform is saddled with - quite apart from the daily disappearance of RiscOS software and resources into the ether for no better reason than thoughtless neglect...

...This is the beginning of our small effort to put things right.

Things to keep in mind:
-It's a work in progress, so be kind.
-It's currently hosted on my lovely Super-upgraded Cobalt Qube.
(well, if it's retro you've got to do it properly)
-My broadband isn't that board at the mo' so don't go grabbing huge files just for the sake of it.
-My wife's hitting the 'net pretty hard this evening listening to crappy tunes on PooTube
-RadioMUD's really going to hit my bandwidth.
-Did I mention the bandwidth..?
-Memberships are available for the whole extra caffeine / full-fat experience on request.
(Members will be expected to upload interesting 32bit Acorn stuff)

-(Kind) comments welcome.

Oh, did I mention the web site doesn't work well with IE7?

Sadly, Charlie has been an inactive member on EAB for quite some time now, due to an increasingly heavy workload.

The Qube RiscOS Server does appear to be offline, as I cannot establish a FTP login either (which is the preferred method of connection).

I imagine that the Server has been taken offline because Charlie presently hasn't the spare time to maintain or update it.

In the meantime, Charlie's Classic Risc OS releases are still hosted on the EAB File Server as mentioned above.
