Amiga OS 3.2.1 - Graphics Memory
Hi Folks,
Ive got an A500 with a 2MB chip memory upgrade (one of those ones from iComp). Works great. However, I have noticed that once I load iPrefs in the startup sequence my chip memory plummets from around 2mb to less than 500k. Im sure that cant be normal since my other amiga with the same OS is absolutely fine. Anyone got any ideas where I need to start looking? |

Couple of options,
a. Free up chipram move commodities from WBStarup to Tools/Commodities and also comment out any other programs not needed in Startup-Sequence and User-startup in the S Drawer. 2. Get a expansion card with 8MB+ fastram, I have a500+ OS3.2.1 and TF536 installed 2MB chip 64MB Fast and I'm using the latest Picasso96 from icomp and a monitor file in DEVs/monitors called native monitor from aminet that frees up chipram moves to fastram. |

Since loading IPrefs causes it (and assuming it's not a bug), it seems to be something with your preferences selection.

Yup, IPrefs activates many of the settings you have set in your preferences. Likely candidates are WBPattern and Screenmode - the more colours you have in your screenmode, the more chip RAM you need. And the larger the background picture(s) you choose for the various different windows, the more chip RAM you need. A large jpeg for example will take a lot more RAM when uncompressed than the filesize might indicate.
