2nd October, best day of the year so far..
...because today I finally got my A4000/PPC to kick into life. It's been sitting unused for god knows how long, and I thought it was going to need a trip abroad for an expensive repair, but instead it decided to behave itself while I reinstall all my software bit by bit.
CyberStormPPC - working CyberVisionPPC - working Ariadne II - working Mediator - working HD floppy - working SCSI drives - working Soundblaster - working It doesn't get any better than this. |

Last night my 200GB USB 2.0 HDD wouldn't spin up. Loads of rare files for various systems that has taken me 2.5 years to collect were on it
This morning I took the USB HDD enclosure apart, plugged the HDD into the 2nd IDE channel on a PC and it started spinning up Quickly went to Maplins, a purchased a new 320GB USB 2.0 HDD and now copying the data across. Phew |

Not like when I was a wee lad... we powered our A500 with 15 yes 15 tons of coal a time!
We had to walk to school in the snow in sandals up hills both ways, after we took the potatoe cart on our bare back to to market at 3AM and had to fight grizzly bears and badgers on the way back! Back in the old country.... |

Today I got a 500gb Hitachi Sata 2 HD and the BEST external HD enclosure ever, an IcyDock.
I swear I'll never buy another kind again. |

Today... um, no yesterday I discovered something good about my wife's b*st*rd IBM laptop.
It started locking up in XP to the point where it now locks up booting. Driver's, re-install, physical abuse... all no go. Had to buy her a new one. Damn! There goes the current retro-budget. Out of curiosity before binning it I installed BeOS - runs fine. So... Tried Linux - Locking up again! And... Installed Amithlon - Hey! I've got a fully-functioning AmigaOS laptop! ( well - a few issues to iron out ) As my 'A3000' is ( currently ) dead - good news! IBM Thinkpad that doesn't like XP or Linux but is happy to run BeOS or AmigaOS - shows good taste! P.S. Is anyone else here married to a superhero? Sam's 'special ability' seems to be a death-to-electronics field... I can't begin to list the number of computers etc that have given-up just by her walking into a room... 6 months for a new laptop shows how well made IBM stuff must be! |
