Liberation - Captive II

I'm currently doing that one for whdload

not much apart from the strange exe unpacker & quit back to wb.

ATM only floppy version done. I was wondering why it's AGA/ECS/OCS. Is the game adapting to the amiga configuration?

Also is there any protection somewhere? And how to save the game (I know you have to be outside buildings but that's it)

Going to do the CD32 version too if there's some interest.

Not my cup of tea but the format and the fact that it's difficult to run from HD piqued my curiosity

That would be wonderful if there was also a whdl Version for the CD32!

Yes - I remember a sticker on the box that said it was enhanced on AGA Amigas. I don't know what the changes were though, I had an A1200 by this point and I suspect it runs terribly on a 68000 system

The reviews of the game in HOL mention enhanced wall texturing and music.

Yep, if you load the game on an 2MB AGA or 2MB OCS the obvious differences are the 3D models are more basic (look at the terminal when you first start) and characters have none/less textures on OCS

I suppose it's a question of memory and the framerate adapts to cpu speed. I'll create 2 separate slaves. 1MB & 2MB with fast.

and yes the CD32 version will be supported too. I'm already doing almost nothing in this game, so let's do nothing for both versions

When you install the disk version you have the option to include a Wall Map Creator.

When you run the Wall Map Creator you can generate new wall textures based on the disk space used and quality.

Yes, i was writing this to not forget about texture quality settings when installing. And as Amigajay said, on AGA You have more/better textures.

I suppose WHDLoad version use basic textures?

Also, here's an example of the manual protection in the game.

Well, I didn't use the install program so yes, it's probably using basic textures.

About the protection, is there a way to quickly reach it? I suppose CD32 version doesn't have it.

There's also another issue for the CD32 version: it has huge voice data (100MB+). I skipped some voices but I'm not sure how it behaves.

I've zoned a very early install that supports CD32 & floppy in the zone. If someone can test (and don't forget about the protection, I have a cracked version I can compare to too to speed things up but I prefer testing myself)

You start in front of the City Records Office. Walk straight through the door and the manual protection should appear.

Maybe think about using original installer instead copying files during installation with WHDLoad?
Or this Wall Map Creator if it's standalone app (don't remember but can be).

@Codyjarrett your screenshot reads "electrotechnology laser systems"...

When I walk into city office the protection doesn't appear. And I'm using IPF. The crack I have crashes...

the process to install the 71 walls is *slow*.

Damn it

AFAIR protection occurs in random places. But in most cases when You enter buildings.

that explains a lot. Playing and creating a savestate would defeat the randomness then

This is one of my favorite games! Can't wait for this to get finished.

The game has 2 internal version numbers, for reasons I don't fully understand. There's a 2.00/2.00 and a 2.02/2.00 floating around for CD32. I think I've also seen a 1.92/2.00; not sure if that's CD32 or floppy. I believe the only differences are bug fixes, but I'm not certain.

What's great about the CD32 version is the voices and also the CD audio, but they are unfortunately impractical/impossible for a WHDLoad version. Could a WHDLoad install for the CD32 version incorporate the music playback from the floppy version?

@Matt_H

I suppose except best textures at default, CD tracks and CD32 controller support it's not different than floppy version with full/best textures installed? So install floppy version with best textures and You have version with music not from CD.

Yes, I believe that's the case. And I think the floppy version even has CD32 controller support, but I could be wrong. The issue is whether the floppy version is the "latest" (i.e., with all the original bugfixes) and whether the copy protection can be cleanly removed (whereas the CD version has none to begin with).
