1200TX Mediator BPPC Voodoo4 weirdness

Yo fellow Bromigians

I’ve got a weird issue with setting up the following;

A1200 Towered with either 1D1 or Chucky Re-Amiga v 1.5 motherboards
Blizzard 603e with SCSI x 2
2 different Voodoo 4 PCI cards
Elbox Mediator 1200TX and 1200TX+ PCI boards setup with config on (Doesn’t work with config off , 4 or 8MB jumpered.

MMCD V2 plus MMCDUPD V2.6 + pci.library v13.10 (have tried lower versions)

Here’s the weirdness. I’ve been using my towers with Blizzard 1260 accelerators setup no issue. Voodoo 4 card are seen as Voodoo 4 cards and can be setup accordingly. This using both OS3.9 and OS3.1.4.1
Now I’ve upgraded both to 603e cards plus SCSI options. Now pciinfo only sees the Voodoo 4 cards as Voodoo 3 cards. Medconfig will only allow me to see 16MB RAM not 32MB.

Have tried doing fresh installs of OS3.9 with Mediator files and Picasso96 from
Icomp.

Now it’s weirder that I have 2 separate setups and both report voodoo 3 cards and NOT voodoo 4. Is this the norm with BPPC compared to blizzard 1260 setups?

If not what am I missing here?

Have tried re flashing one of the BPPC cards to even latest for G-REX, but still the same.
4 and 8MB jumpers tried and still the same.

Using latest mediator files.

Any help please.

Can't vouch for Voodoo 4 cards but Voodoo 5500 was fine & showed as Voodoo 5500 with a 603e sporting SCSI.

Are the 603e's on the latest Firmware?

Yo Bromigo!

So I’ve had a play. Yes firmware’s are the latest.

So I used the “MMU” option to “Yes” which MedConfig suggests to set to “No” and this brings up the correct Voodoo Card.

But a twist to this I also contacted Elbox. Who have said to set Warp3D setting in envarc to “No”. This also brings back the Voodoo to Voodoo 4.

Elbox explanation as per the email response;

from MedConfig script:

(set #warp3dchoice-help
(cat "The Warp3D variable is used in Amigas with Voodoo4 and Voodoo5 graphic cards.\n\n"
"This variable was necessary to use Voodoo 4 and Voodoo 5 gfx cards with the first release "
"of Warp 3D for Mediator. The current Warp 3D for Mediator properly recognises "
"the Voodoo 4/5 cards; the Warp3D variable should be set to 'No'.\n\n"

"If this variable is set to 'Yes' your Voodoo4/5 graphic card is recognised as "
"the Voodoo 3 card, so you cannot use the second 32MB of the Voodoo4/5 graphic card."

Will be playing around some more to make sure

Ahh good to know, I'll have to check my Voodoo4 config on my A4000/Mediator system to see if it's set correctly. Thanks for the tip!

No Worries Mang!

Elbox really need to sort out that MedConfig in the next release. They seem to expect us mere mortals to read the script apparently

Checked my system. It was already set to "No". I also saw I had an MMU file in envarc:Mediator and it was set to "No" also...

Anyway my system is working apart from my Voodoo4 which blinks/re-sync the screen every few minutes.

If your Voodoo4 is doing that. Then it may mean either;

1).. Voltage issue. Have you tried another PSU or swapped into another PCI slot.

2).. The Voodoo card is on its last legs.
