CD32 disk not spinning
Just received a new power supply from AmigaKit for a CD32 I got a while back. I've never had it running, since I've had no power for it.
Plugged it in, connected it to a tv (through an SX-1). At first the power led flashed and the screen showed red, but I cleaned the back connector a bit and plugged the SX-1 back in. Now it displays the disk intro, but when I put a cd in the tray, it does nothing. No spinning or anything else. Any ideas to start troubleshooting? |

One method to check if the laser is actually working is to press the trapdoor close switch and see if the laser comes on and tries to start focusing, Don't stare directly into the beam.
Press the button in, the laser will come on and then the focus lens will move up and down about 3 times with the spindle spinning briefly each time it changes focus. If it's not doing that then check voltages. |

I think I may have jumped the gun on requesting help, since once I opened it up and connected the drive cable, it worked fine
Your suggestions got me to open it though, so thank you Really nice picture through that SX-1! Now on to start a CD32 collection as well |

Cleaned up my CDTV 1411 to connect to the SX-1, but since RAM is allocated to the buffers of the drive, Banshee now complains about too little memory. Does anyone know if adding RAM to the SX-1 would make it allocate from that instead?

Lower the number of buffers on the RDB (edit the partitions to less buffers).
Then put a line for each partition after addmem the SX1 FAST RAM: Code:
addbuffers name_of_partition+double_dots number_of_buffers_you_think_are_enough |

The number of buffers must be decreased from the HD partitions. Partitions have this value stored in the RDB.
A floppy only have 15 buffers if is OS-legal. Are you using a boot floppy? |

No, nothing in the drive, and no hdd connected. Just the SX-1 with a connected floppy drive, nothing else. When I disconnect the floppy everything is fine. When it's connected Banshee (on cd) complains. Was only wondering if Fast RAM in the SX-1, would leverage that (and possibly other) situation.

auto-added FAST RAM on the SX-1 will make lots of system portions automagically moved to FAST RAM, creating a lot of chip RAM room.
Without memory on the card is takes some from CD32 chip mem, causing the problem you are describing. The same adding an external floppy: the Amiga mounts it, and this requires some RAM... |

I read somewhere that the SX-1 needs double sided SIMMs, but the one I have now is too wide, so I can't push it all the way "into" the socket.
Does it work with single sided (8mb) or do I need a different double sided SIMM? |
