44pin ide cable length without using buffered interface

I cannot remember the max safe length of an ide cable that I can fit inside an a1200 without using a buffered interface. Ive decided to source some decent (i hope) compact flash card ide thingys and all I will need is a 3way 44pin ide lead. I have some choices of 20, 30 or 40cm from amigakit.com...

Im basically going to mount one inside on the cradle and have the other sitting round the back or on the side so I can remove the card, but I need plenty of cable to allow this. If 40cm is ok then I will grab one of them.

Happy xmas guys

I kinda doubt you'll be ok with anything over 20cm under unbuffered interface.
I suggest you get an Idefix adapter that will suite you well for every length you choose. It's kinda El'Cheapo anyway

Merry Christmas to you too \o/

I can't see the Amiga IDE interface being that different from say server interfaces and they were upwards of 50 cm anyway.

IDE's specification says that max cable length should be 18" = 45.7cm
I don't know if with unbuffered interface that value should be lower or not (due to noise) but I believe that A600's/A1200's native unbuffered IDE, would not be ideal for such long cables.
Only way to find out is try unless more expert peepz like Thomas/Alexh/Zetr0 know better

I have done this in the past but it this was many many years ago. I wont be using anything other than cf ide cards anyway and both will be internal.

I might go and get a buffered interface again... but I seem to have aquired two of them but they are both knackerd... both have a fried track thats lifted right off the board. I must have cracked open the soldering as there are jumper wires on one of them but it will not function correctly. Im either getting old or ive stored things away for so long im forgetting whats actually living in my storage lol.
