A4000 graphics problem.
I guess I cheered to quickly.
Last week or so my 4000 has started getting very garbled graphics. At first it started to flicker a bit and it's slowly gotten worse, now I can't get any kind of usable picture at all. It's not the monitor because I've tried three different ones. It's not my scandoubler because the same thing happens if I connect my working 1084S. I'm kinda hoping it's caused by the original PSU starting to give up. If it isn't there's more work that needs to be done to it, things I just can't do myself. I have an SFX PSU ready but I've read so much negative things about the AmigaKit adapter I have so I don't dare to use it, so need to get another one that seems to be better. Just wanna ask if this could be the issue or if there's something with the AGA chipset or something else with the board that can be happening? I don't seem to be able to get a break with this one... Hmm. Weird. I reseated the CPU card (CS Mk II) and now everything seems fine.
Guess I need to clean up the slots properly. |

Slots probably are not dirty....
Jam a Wedge shaped pencil eraser between the Motherboard & Chassis. You'll need to pull the front drive bays for access. Jam it right on the middle of the CPU slot & press down on the CPU card. There is an awful amount of flex in the motherboard between the chassis stand off's & doing this saves pulling the mobo out to get it flat. Glad you appear to have resolved the issue you were seeing. |

I don't have the stand-offs for the board. A friend is gonna print new ones but I haven't gotten them yet. It's worked like this for 25+ years but this incident just shows me they're needed. |
